2023 Home Renovations

Post by Princess Morripov »

Shall we have a new thread? (If anyone can think of a snappier title then do let me know :)) )

What are everyone’s plans this year? We have a lot of things in the pipeline but a lot is dependant on selling a house we are paying to sit there empty so we have to sit tight for now on anything big, so in the meantime we are concentrating on more cosmetic things that we can do without breaking the bank :))

So first off this month we’ve concentrated on Tupac’s bedroom and ridding it of the magnolia :))

Here is a before - when we first moved in and just before we started decorating.

So the directive was a superhero/marvel bedroom :))

The ceiling was quite badly cracked so that’s all been filled in and repainted, the walls a grey with a city-scape feature wall (with some little shelves on the buildings to put his figures on) and some new bedding/cushions.

Also a massive sort on the Kallax, and some new black handles to tie it all in. Probably a few more bits to finish it off but it’s pretty much there and he’s very thrilled with the outcome!

That looks amazing! I’d never have thought to paint the radiator like that.

Thank you! I thought doing the city scape would be fun but it was really hard work  and frog tape kept doing me dirty and lifting paint off the walls so I ended up having to just have a really steady hand to get all the lines straight. :ruby:

It is to be fair, as he is definitely my child :look: and very particular about everything being in the right place facing the right way  he makes his bed and folds his pajamas under his pillow every morning.

I was a bit confused why it said Oliver - and then I remember Tupac is not his actual name. It looks fab!

That looks so so good!

We’ve got two priorities this year I think.

Number one is our spare bedroom which is currently a toy dumping ground. We need to make it into a playroom/spare room with proper sleeping situation and more toy storage. It also needs painted as it’s got wall stickers and a pink wall (hangover from the previous owners) and possibly a new carpet. Timeframe for this is before the end of March as my mum is coming over to visit.

Second big one is we are re-doing the main bathroom, loo and en-suite (one after the other) We’ve got the builder booked in and the work will start after Easter. We are going tile and fixture shopping with him at the start of February though.

Exciting! Can you show us the tiles? I’ve just booked a drain survey and I’m kind of hoping it’ll result in the bathroom needing to be re-tiled!

It's so hard to choose when there are so many nice tile options. What did you go for?

I love Tupac's new room. B's room is the same colour. Our next project is to switch his room up a bit, by removing his queen bed and adding a loft bed with a desk underneath. We're not doing any painting, so it should theoretically be quick but Ikea are not making it easy by never having the bed we want in stock. New lighting is top priority, as he wants some LED strips, lamps, and a new light fitting on the ceiling.

He has Kallax in his room already, and it is incredibly messy. To the point I think I need to get rid of the baskets, because they get filled to the brim with *stuff*. It hurts my brain!

I went in thinking coloured tiles (potentially pink) but we changed our minds and went very neutral and blew the budget on our vanity and bath instead of a more expensive feature tile.

Anyway, main bathroom is Calcatta all over - walls and floors with an oak vanity (this one but with a dark stone benchtop and round sinks) and black tape ware. We will have this bath and a separate shower.

Our en-suite is having a gray marble floor tile and this textured white one on the walls. Laid vertically. A round bath and this vanity.
