Douglas, the black lab next door, views the entire world as edible. He has frequently been caught stealing the neighbours’ food recycling bins.

Well if you call your dog Douglas, you're bound to have a naughty pup. :PenelopeKeith:

I definitely need to find a safe place to put the dry cat food though!

We used cooked chicken breast slices for training, which you can pick up in any supermarket, and a little goes a long way - Kiwi would do practically anything for a teeny sliver. :))

I have no right being here, but a tube of primula is a training aid for my neighbour.

We are strict about no treats indoors so I get a better response rate outside. Innes is going through his obnoxious teenage stage so is running off to play with other dogs (the dogs aren't a fan) and jumping up on people with food.

I don't know what he's going to do first bankrupt us or get me jailed. He doesn't understand that most dogs and people aren't that keen on larger than average whippets who can go from 0-35mph in less than 10 seconds and can jump well over 6 foot from a standing start.

Still working on it with the humans

But their cocker is pretty food obsessed, so use it for recall and such.

Pre-cooked chicken sounds like a nice easy one. Sadly I don't think we get cheese in a tube here.

Duo, Innes sounds like a handful. :))

We give Ripley loads of human food. She will do anything for cooked turkey, chicken, ham, meat, loves scrambled egg (which is actually really good for a dicky tummy), cucumber, apple, melon, most fruit except grapes, cheese, and yes, we stuff kongs with primula, her food and er, liver paste which keeps her going for ages and is a special treat.

Oh my gosh! Puppies are hard work! Seriously!

After the first night I ran out and bought one of those heartbeat puppies for her to snuggle with at night. I don't know if the heartbeat helps, but she does love it and immediately took it to her crate (where she takes all her favourite treasure!). I only put the heartbeat on at bedtime, and gave the heat pad a miss because she seems to prefer not to be too hot. (A favourite nap spot is on top of the air conditioning vents.)

She chews a lot! And likes to steal shoes. Doesn't seem terribly enthusiastic about walks, but I can tell we'd be better with a harness so I will get one of those. Got through her first thunderstorm with no issues. She has won over the cats already. (Phew!)

I think she's fairly receptive to training. She reliably sits when commanded, and we're working on recall.

I can't believe your cats! Mine look at the puppy like she's filth 😂.

She looks adorable. And yes, puppies are such hard work but it all changes so quickly so it's not too bad for long.
