Kneeling chair rocker thingies

Post by Lily »

My dining table wasn't made for home-working and I have been thinking for a while about getting an ergonomic chair for work anyway. Does anyone have one of these chairs? I have asked my physio about them as obviously I need to avoid pressure on my knees but it sounds like your weight is more evenly distributed across your whole body in one of them.

Thank you.

I hated the kneeling chair I tried, it made my shins burn.

I was using gym ball today, that was much better.

A chap in my old office ordered an adjustable seated/standing desk and whilst he was waiting for it to arrive he used a gym ball with a normal desk. So basically, what they said too.

I thought of my gym ball but that's too low'; the stool thing has just arrived, so I'll see how I get on!

I had one at work years ago when I had a really bad back. It took a good couple of weeks to get used to it (it got worse before it got better) but after that it was brilliant and I used it till it fell apart.

It has arrived! Without any instructions so it took me 2 hours to put the sodding thing together. I like it, although I can't kneel on it for too long with my bad knee so I am putting that out in front of me. It does encourage tilting the pelvis and pulling your back straight so I think it will do me some good - I also like the fact it rocks as that's comforting and comfortable.

Glad you enjoyed! :) When I realised it was going to take an age I thought I'd take the opportunity to explore the Cyberlink software I use to make DVDs from VHS. It took A LONG time and isn't perfect but I'm pleased with the results so far.

I’ve got a similar kneeler thing but it’s a non-rocker version, I bought it probably 25 years ago from the Innovations catalogue (does anyone remember that?) :))

You would not believe how long it takes to process just over 1 minute of film and audio, especially when you can't preview it. Hence the end result isn't spot on but I have decided to stop aiming for perfection!

I always wondered who bought from those catalogues. I wonder no more!

This is mine! I didn’t buy anything really weird from them, I think it was just this and a rigid plastic thing that I bought to go under the cushions of the secondhand sofa I bought for my very first flat, because it was a little sagging.

Lily, can I ask how you have been getting on with your chair? My back has been bad all week and I'm seriously considering getting something similar.

My knee has been playing up so badly I've scarcely been on it to be honest, preferring to stay on the sofa! I can sit on it with my legs stretched out in front of me and the rocking, and the pushing forward of my pelvis, is really good for my back, so I would definitely recommend it.

Excellent (well, apart from the knee bit, obviously!). I prefer the sofa too at the moment, but sadly cannot even pretend to be working from it

Obviously not Lily, but... :)) We’ve been moved to non-riser desks at work and now have a couple of balls to sit on which I have been really enjoying. It’s still completely possible to slouch on them but the rocking motion is really gentle and I’ve never felt in dange or falling off. They’re much kinder to my knees than the (very brief) go I had on a knee chair some time ago.
