That's frustrating but at least you know you couldn't have done better.

And hopefully knowing how well you can across is good confidence building stuff.

I'm sorry you didn't get it but that is definitely good feedback.

Re: Time For A Change
I got the caring job I interviews for on Friday but I've turned it down. It was shift work including weekends and overnights, I'd have to have used my own car to travel and there was personal care involved which I'm really hesitant about. Also, it was only £18,500 which I don't think we could survive on financially anyway. :ella:
It feels really wrong to be turning down a job but I just don't think it was a good fit. :(

That sounds like the right decision shoe. It's early stages so you can definitely hold out for something more ideal.
And congrats! This confirms how employable you are.

Congratulations on the job offer, and I agree, you've made the right choice turning it down.

Re: Time For A Change
I just heard I didn't get the other one I interviewed for on Friday but that's fine, it wasn't a high enough salary anyway.
I've done another blast of job sites and sending off my CV today so hopefully more things will come from that.

Re: Time For A Change
I've applied to become a bus driver such is my desperation.
I've just lost my shit in the office as the depot manager pushed a load of things through on my dashboard between 1 and 2 this afternoon and then sent me an email just gone 3 asking if there was any reason they hasn't been invoiced. Yes, because I don't fucking sit there pressing refresh waiting for you to do this shit. Also, three out of the two aren't ready to be invoiced and shouldn't have been pushed through to me. I'm actually raging. Today is turning into a shit day (other stuff has happened on top) and I can't go home and rant about it to J as his day is bad enough.

You're worth an awful lot more than the caring job is paying Shoe. I'm glad you turned it down.
I hope you're OK Skips.

Re: Time For A Change
I've got a second round for the one outstanding job I interviewed for. Which should be great news but I need to give a presentation (taking hard copies with me) which I have never done in my life before. I need to tell them how and why I would prioritise some tasks.

Re: Time For A Change
Well done for getting to the second round, Skips. The good thing about giving a presentation is that it's part of the interview you can fully prepare beforehand.

Re: Time For A Change
Yes well done Skips and as emma says at least that gives you the opportunity to get ready beforehand on one aspect you know you’ll be asked about.
At least they’ve been clear too, I had an interview recently and the invite said come prepared to talk about XYZ, then said “slides not required”. I took that to mean I could use slides if I wanted so I prepared some, then when I got into the interview and said I would share my screen they said I wasn’t meant to use slides and nobody else had so I couldn’t. So that was fun.

I have no idea where to start, as I say, I've never had to do one before.

Re: Time For A Change
In your situation I would do a bit of Googling about different ways of prioritisation, pick one and personalise it, and then also include an example of when you’ve prioritised something which has had a good outcome because of your actions.

Is this for an admin/finance job again? It seems a bit...overkill. I’d be terrified too as I’ve never done a presentation either.

Fingers cross Skips When is the interview. f you have never done a presentation before then maybe write yourself a short essay/story on why you would prioritise some tasks and then maybe use Powerpoint or Apple keynotes if you have any of those and write up your story as a bullet points (with pictures?) that you can talk around? Or just use word with some graphics if you don't have Powerpoint or keynotes or something similar.

Re: Time For A Change
Skips- do you read “Ask A Manager”? It’s one of the best websites for job hunting and I bet she’s got loads of great advice for giving presentations.
I’m a bit of a weirdo in that presenting normally doesn’t phase me one bit, I’m good at it and I normally love it. The best advice i can give us don’t read every word on the page, people will get bored.
I am considering applying for a secondment. A friend of mine is going on secondment so his position will be available. We had a long discussion about it at the weekend and I’m seriously thinking about it. There is nothing to look forward to in my current job, I’m bored and there’s no other prospect of doing something different any time soon. His role is globally based and he isn’t required to be in the office and since there is no sign of me going back full time this year (I love being onsite and following the manufacturing processes at the factory where I work) maybe now is a good time to take it up
