:)) Fair point, well made. I am also being very, very choosy at the moment and that may need to loosen up.

Yeah, I do think that being open to something that sounds interesting is worthwhile but as you say, be choosy at first.

Hang in there, Derek. Easily said, I know, but a lot of people don’t look for new jobs until after bonus time (where that applies), so I’m sure it’s just seasonal.

(Thanks, guys.)

I just got an email to say I didn't get the Gothenburg job. Disappointing, but there will be something else. They told me I was second, and asked if they could reach out if the process falls through at any point. It would be terrible to hope for that, wouldn't it :look:

Sorry to hear that Smurf! If I were you, I'd also keep my hopes up ...not terrible at all, just terribly human.

Not terrible at all Smun. How about we rustle up a collective turtle hex to head the way of the successful applicant? Nothing unpleasant, maybe they could come into money and go off to live in Bali or something.

You're right though - something else will come along.

That sounds like a nice reason to turn a job down.

I'm sorry as well, Smunder. I hope something comes along very soon

Ah sorry to hear that, Smun. And Del - you dark horse! It is a weird time of year and there will probably be more stuff coming up in January.

A job came up at the publication I've been freelancing at for most of this year. I had a few people there urge me to apply, which was nice. I love it here, and the people, so I've applied for a part-time role which would enable me to carry on writing about cheese etc.

That sounds promising neuf.

I’m sorry smunder, I hope they make a better position for you or the other candidate can’t continue.

Oh, I like the plan of the other candidate coming into money or something.

Good luck, nine!

Sorry it wasn’t better news. However I ended up in a new job in this exact situation. Fingers crossed.

I applied on 8/12 so it's taken two months to get to this stage but I have an interview for this role. Date TBC. I was secretly shown an email describing me as a "v strong candidate" and have been told I will get excellent references from the team I've been freelancing with (I'd be working with them in this role). So fingers crossed... if they're interviewing me, hopefully the salary expectations I put on the form weren't too far out. I hate that my industry never advertises with a salary.

That's taken quite a while, even allowing for Christmas! Best of luck for the interview.

I just had a chat with the consultancy firm I approached, which I think went ok (positive things were said about my CV/experience) and I've offered to make myself available in London early next week if they want to meet me in person.

In the meantime, my chat with the head of our function and J (my LM's LM, but previously my LM - she's ultimately responsible for the dept in which I sit) about the role they want me to take on was postponed from today until Friday. I can see from the content of the training course I've been put down for in April what the direction of travel is going to be, and it really doesn't appeal. I'll have to take it if I can't find something else though. Pesky mortgage/dependents. :ella:

It's been painful

It's quite annoying having to earn money for a living, isn't it? Can't this be stopped?

Fingers crossed, both of you!

So, the person who got offered the Gothenburg job has withdrawn :look: I have a Zoom on Tuesday with the two academics leading the project. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself but :disco:
