Could you phrase it along the lines of ‘I’d like to talk to you about the possibility of altering my hours over the summer’? That way you’re not starting with ultimatums, you’re finding out what they would consider and if that would suit you. I do think if you tell them what you’re thinking you should be clear about which is your preference if you offer them more than one option so you don’t spend the summer thinking if only.

God I love Gloucester services. I always stop enro2to my mums and buy treats.the staff are always super cheerful so I suspect its a lovely place to work.

Froozy's idea makes sense, Squirrel.

After a chat with J over the weekend, I'm swaying more towards not applying for the post I spotted. It only has funding confirmed until early Spring and with the recruitment process plus my notice period, I'd probably get about 6 months in role. The salary is around £3k more full-time than my current part-time wage, which is fine, but maybe not worth adding to my stress levels for. I need to be realistic about what I can cope with.

I left a full time substantive role for a temporary contract and they found the funds to keep me, so I wouldn't let that sway you too much. Whether or not you would want to do the job is probably the main consideration.

Full time work in a new place is a mixed bag. You do have somewhere to be every day and see people but also you have to and there’s less time to make non-work friends, juggling house things initially etc. But 6 months gives you time to look about, an awful lot of people find jobs through the job they have.

Hamm, Pip, I hate you both :lol:

So you both talked sense and I've spent the last 12 hours filling in the application form from hell. The deadline is midnight, so it was now or never, but I didn't expect that. Behaviours-based, individual 'interview' questions which needed to be answered in a specific structure and a tiny word count. Tell us about a time you did x, describe the situation, provide context, explain the issues/implication/solution, what were the results. In less characters than I've used in this post.

I wonder if the lack of enthusiasm for applying/optimism is linked to everything you have going on right now? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, this was only meant to be 4 months temp work, and I'm still here over a year later.

My interview has been moved to Thursday. I really hope I get it as I've cancelled Endgame tickets. :lol:

Also, I'm not sure how my current notice period works. My contract states for the first three months it's 1 week notice, which ends on Friday, and then goes into 1 months notice. I've not yet had a new contract (the old one also ends Friday as it's a three month contract) and I'm not sure if the 3 months thing starts again or I have to give 1 months notice. I assume, despite being out of contract, that the notice periods still stand. HR have confirmed I need a new contract, it doesn't just roll over (and have also confirmed that I would still get paid without a new contract).

This is why I want something permanent, as the main earner this is all too much of a worry.

I think my interview went really well, if nothing else the food looked and smelled amazing and I would go back for that alone.

I wont find out till next week but I keeping my fingers crossed.

I got offered the job, but it's weekly pay, which has a knock on effect on our Universal Credit so I don't think I can take it. It's a pain in the backside as weekly pay can result in a 5 week paid period, which means that month the universal credit is really low and I find fluctuating income really hard to manage. I feel sad, but I don't want to replace one stress with another.

Unfortunately the world doesn’t do weekly, I’d find it hard to budget monthly with an unknown amount. I hate UC, this is why people end up in food banks and high interest debt.

Oh no! What a massive pain. I agree with the others, if you're keen on the job it must be worth asking if there’s any flexibility in the pay period.

If the company are struggling to hire the people they want due to their pay arrangements, hopefully giving them some feedback will be useful as well.

Well done being offered the job through. Why is nothing in life ever simple?! :verm:
