Olive, that's, erm, an interesting style of management.

Honestly, you couldn’t make it up. They seem to like to make an occasion of things.
The MD had already warned me that they would like at least one face to face through the process, no matter how brief, before offering.

I thought I'd encountered every bizarre interview process going but...wow. Just wow. Not in a good way!

Making you have dinner with another candidate feels quite horrible to me, even if you didn't know it at the time.

Oh I thought he was another candidate for the same job, reading again I see he wasn't which is slightly better but still weird.

They did tell me before dinner thankfully! It was when they first told me he’d be joining us I had a brief WTF moment and asked the question directly.Heebie Jeebie wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 4:50 pm Making you have dinner with another candidate feels quite horrible to me, even if you didn't know it at the time.
Yeah, that was so weird. I do get it that he’s been in the process longer and they’d just come out to meet him as he’d done all the interviews but they’d had a good half an hour with him to tell him before dinner without me there!
Can you imagine having dinner to celebrate with your new boss and some poor random sucker who doesn’t end up getting the job that you never see again??

No, I’d be working closely with him though.Heebie Jeebie wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 4:55 pm Oh I thought he was another candidate for the same job, reading again I see he wasn't which is slightly better but still weird.
The MD has a team of 5 directors reporting to him and he’s now one of them (Finance) and the role I’m applying for is another so I can get why they’d want us to meet, especially with the Sales Director there too as that’s a chunk of the leadership team right there.
Announcing over dinner was super weird as I think the new guy felt awkward on my behalf too.

The cherry on top was that the highway was down to 1 lane so a 20 minute drive home took me over an hour.

She can tell you, but then she will have to kill you.

Re: Time For A Change
I hadn’t heard anything back since the interview/ weird dinner last Tuesday but had an email this morning from the UK Head of Marketing who I interviewed with the week before last.
Apparently the MD is trying to set up a time for me to meet the CEO (this is news to me!) and she’s asked if we can have a chat beforehand so she can prep/ brief me.

Re: Time For A Change
I think so!
My recruiter was on holiday last week and called this morning for feedback and this is all news to her too. I think the Head of Marketing obviously jumped the gun but the recruiter has a call with the MD this pm so is going to confirm if I’m through to step 101 of the 1001 interview process.
