I've only had one day in the care home, it's a lot to take in and I wonder if I'm in over my head. I have another two days shadowing so hopefully it'll fall into place more. I've been sleeping better and I don't feel so wretched about everything so I definitely my old role played a large part in my bad mental state.

“In over your head” sounds very like the start of every new job I’ve ever had  I hate the first few weeks as my head always feels as though it is going to explode, and I reckon it takes at least three months before I settle down. I am particularly bad at changing jobs though :)

You're definitely not in over your head. I think caring roles are hugely underrated in terms of the skills you need, but you've got this, Skips.

How are you getting on now, skips?

I appear to have a job :look: A one year teaching contract in the department where I've done my undergrad and PhD. I don't know exactly what's involved (some mix of teaching and learning technology) but it's an income for a year and hopefully the first step in my academic career :wanker:

Well done Smunder!

I think I've might the right change, but it's definitely knackering and loooong days. I do struggle a bit with some of the personal care (poo :vomit: ) but I'm hoping with time I'll become immune to it. I said I'll give it a year and if I haven't got used to the hours I'll have a rethink, it's great I get 4 days off a week, but at the moment most of those are wiped out by me needing to recover from the day before if I've been working.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, Skips. I found you got more used to the poo after a while.

Thank you all :)) I have oddly mixed feelings about it (probably because of that meeting), but it is good news really, and a relief to have something lined up!
