Well done Skips, this is exciting as you've been miserable for such a long time :disco: I'm sorry your current employer is taking the shine off things. Please listen to Liv's advice. People leave jobs without working notice/don't show up for their first day/behave in all manner of dreadful ways and you never hear of the employer pursuing things. Look at the story Smal posted in the gossip thread about fraud, and all the other examples people posted in reply. They won't do anything and more importantly you have no moral obligation. They had the chance to plan for this last time.

I'm not going to go back after the 17th, whatever they may believe and say. I just won't go back after that date. I'm actually starting to get excited, albeit I'm scared at making such a big change. I've spoken to an old Facebook friend (we haven't seen in each other in well over 15 years) who made the change about 10 years ago and she's given me a real boost. She did the same as me, admin, and says she hasn't looked back. She was also 40 when she did it so it's not too late for me (and she's continued with training and has specialised).

Speaking as someone who won't qualify until they are 47, it's definitely not too late :))

I'm so pleased you're getting out of that toxic environment, Skips; I'm really, really excited for you. I can't tell you the difference it's made to me, going from a job I'd come to hate to one I genuinely care about. So many people have commented on the change in me. P has been a support worker for 15 years and loves it, and although it will never be the best paid job (and is bloody hard work), there's a real tangible sense of making a difference. And the experience you'll gain can lead on to other, better paid things if you want it to and have the drive to train. I've just caught up on several pages of this thread and was terrified you were going to let your current employer bully you out of it, and I'm so pleased you're standing your ground.

Lora speaks a lot of what I was going to say I gave up my job of 17 years to become a self employed Slimming World consultant and that was 5 years ago
I never looked back and I know I'm making a difference to people's health and lives
Also to repeat Lora the change in me going to a job I really loved just shone through and so many people commented

Lots of luck and I'm so glad you're not going back after the 17th

Do consider getting a sick note for the last week or so

I very nearly didn't but I'm so pleased I went for it. She is very passionate about what she does, and didn't hold back on the bad stuff either.

They have finally confirmed my last day as the 17th May. They asked if I could come back for month end and I said I would let them know. They asked if I would come in to help my replacement prep beforehand but I said there wasn't much point as it wouldn't be any different to any other day (month end stuff can only happen on month end, otherwise what is the point?). I won't be available regardless of whether I am working or not for the actual day. :look:

I had a sales rep message me to ask why my boss doesn't know what I do - they had emailed him to ask what tasks I do for them. Goes to show the shit show I am leaving. :))

Erm, no, they can do one. What have they ever done for you?

Well yes, but I'm better at being firm from a distance, hence I said I would let them know. Also, they have set my end date as the 17th within the system so how are they planning on paying me for this extra day because I certainly wouldn't do it for free.

Well done, Skips, both on the new job and getting your (dreadful) employer to agree to your chosen leaving date! I'm so pleased for you.

Well done Skips. I think it's great that you're going for a big change, it's very brave so you should be proud. I hope it all works out for you.

Well done for standing your ground, and I think being vague and ignoring them after you leave might be easier than saying no now!

Congratulations Skips! Just move on and leave them to it - lazy buggers never finding out what you do and preparing for you not being available!
