I loved Lake Garda, we stayed in Sirmione. We saw Michael Winner whilst we were there, but you won’t have to worry about that.
I've been twice, we were in Garda once and I think Sirmione the other time. We went to Malcesine too for a day trip, I think. It was lovely. And I went to Lake Como last year which was also delightful, I reckon you can't go wrong with Italian lakes.
Thank you all so much! I am compiling (copy and pasting) your recs to give to my friend and to keep so I can steer towards nice sounding things (like dark chocolate sorbet ).
I liked Sirmione. It is quite busy but it’s pretty there. It’s nice to swim in the lake there as there are some thermal springs. You can take several boat trips from there too - short ones around the peninsula and longer ones to other towns.
I've been to Lake Garda, Verona and Venice. I much preferred Verona to Venice but I was with a toddler and a baby at the time. Venice didn't really feel like a real functioning city - I found myself wondering where people bought their plumbing supplies.
