Gaming laptops

Post by Topcat »

Hello chums.

Does anybody have offspring or know anything themselves these things? My laptop is 11 years old and whist still just about working, I do need a new one, only I have no idea what is good and what is bad.

I am not after direct recommendations (although any would be gratefully received), it is more trying to understand what the different components and processors are that make a good laptop for gaming on, because it would appear that the days of just picking the highest numbered processor are long, long in the past.

I have tried to read up on this but most forums I have read abuse anybody who asks such questions for being a Boomer or a n00b, so they can fuck off.

Monk said: I'd recommend going for one made within the past 2 years, with a dedicated graphics chip (either Nvidia like a gtx or rtx, or an AMD radeon), at least 16gb of RAM, and a chip equivalent to an Intel I7

And he said this: It's worth noting that desktop gaming pcs will always have a better price to performance ratio, although that can get thrown off a little if you're buying a prebuild instead of building it yourself

That's all I have to contribute

I mean I can set up a call with my 14 year old if it helps? Alternatively, he just bought this one which he seems to be gaming on very happily.

Ooh, Elya thankyou!

I fear a call would just blow my ageing decrepit mind though but thankyou so much for the offer. 😂

I will dig deeper into that laptop though. One thing though, could you let me know what the Nvidia numbers are on the end of that picture?

A went for an Acer Nitro when he needed a new gaming laptop a year or so ago. It saw him through a Games Design course at Sixth Form and says it will be fine for the Games Development/Design degree he has just started too. He plays absolutely loads of games as research

I think we bought it from Currys but we’ve used ebuyer for other tech and they have always been competitively priced.
