The Good Life (gardening chat)

Incorporating hobbies, computer games, Verm's Interesting Links and anything else you can think of excluding football and other spectator sports because these belong in the Sport section, but allowing sports you play yourself with your own body as that counts as a pastime.

My seeds have turned up, and I think my bulbs are due any day. I've also made an order to the garden centre so I've got some herbs, a hosta, a small box, a lavender and some trailing plants arriving. I've decided to make a bit of a display on my singer sewing table which lives in the garden and is often a bit under utilised. Very loosely based on these pinterest ideas

It looks like Petersham nurseries, smal

George drew a plan of the garden for school (he had to do a mini beast hunt and draw on where he found the insects) and we used an app to identify all the plants because he likes to be accurate :geek:. We have a magnolia tree! I've always wanted one

Here is a close-up of the bugle flowering in my lawn yesterday :))

The flower heads are probably about 3” tall.

I know not Petersham Nurseries. The website looks lovely though!
Burford Garden Centre (the loveliest garden centre I've ever been to) has lots of displays like I'm imagining.

You would love Petersham, smal! It’s very you. They have a cafe where you can eat in the greenhouse and if you go at the right time of year it’s full of jasmine

That will look lovely, smal. I should do something similar really since I'm currently using an old bench and two of those cheap, folding tables. They're all properly knackered and they look terrible!

I had a message that my local pet shop (that also sells plants) was open for two hours a day so I popped down there yesterday and picked up a clematis. I've planted it but I need to untie it and train it up the wires on the fence.

Which app was it, emma?

]Ah, that'll look nice, smal.

I've spent today filling my carrot box.

That's very good. Your carrots will be as straight as...straight things.

I made the display! I'm really pleased with it.

I want to make something similar (but lower) at the front now, but I need to think about how to do it with things I have already.

May my carrots be straight and free from flies.

That looks lovely, smal. Slightly prettier than my big blue thing

Well. Yes, we've got functional elsewhere!

My farmer gracy stuff came, it was nicely packaged and promptly went in the ground. And I spent half the day basically bleaching the patio. I bought black spot remover at great cost and then worked out it is basically slightly watered down bog bleach. The patio looks splendid though, I'm really pleased. My lungs might not be.

Btw, your leaf mould pile  . Its huge! When we reshuffle the shed I might have room for a leaf pile (much smaller than yours, mind). Does it rot down efficiently?

Also also, I remembered I've had these brackets for quite a few years and theyve never been put up. I don't know what to hang from them?! (I wouldn't leave tools outside)

Any ideas?

I can easily climb in  leaves take ages to mould down btw, this is a general compost bin (grass cuttings, garden waste, kitchen compost, cardboard/paper/tissue). It's like magic. I just pile it all in, and leave it (with the odd shuffle about) and boom! Compost! (in a year or so)

I have a separate smaller bin (a normal one you can buy from shops) , which seems to be slower. So I figure this means the bigger, the better/faster.

I also have a separate leaf only bin which is sooo sloowwwwww.
