Podcasts & Blogs I like

Post by Red »

Its a real skill putting out good content all the time so kudos to those who do it well.
Inspired by someone mentioning the Londoner blog I thought it would be good to see what we did in to.

I've been listening to http://www.thebittersweetlife.net/ for a while on and off, I download the episode via the podcast app on my iphone.
Its a weekly show of 2 expats who live in Rome and talk about their experiences of living in a foreign country and their differences adventures. Its very compelling actually and they dip into some random and slightly left-field topics.

For blogs I'm a definite beauty junkie and dip into Sali Hughes, Caroline Hirons, Wayne Goss and India Knight pretty regularly. I used to follow Paris Daily Photo but he selfishly left Paris to settle down so his blog ended.

You?
Jesus loves you. Everyone else thinks you're an asshole.

Hi Red. I love http://www.shutterbean.com for lifestyle envy and some great recipes. I also love www.onemominmaine.com as I think she writes so beautifully, but she hardly blogs anymore, unfortunately.

I listen to radiogorgeous.com and am a paid subscriber of thatsnotmetal.net so that I can access all their interviews and that. I love love love TNM because it cuts through the bullshit and it's quite funny. I like this one too but it can be a bit hit and miss - stories.co.uk/podcast and love Deliciously Stella which has just become weekly.

Stuff Mom Never Told You is really good- it was originally recommended here. It's intersectional feminism but fairly lighthearted about it.

I like this one
https://stylebyemilyhenderson.com/
and I'm a bit obsessed by the Billfold - especially the random 'How a XXX does money'

and Colossal http://www.thisiscolossal.com/ is great.
And The Pool -www.the-pool.com obvs which I think a lot of people read.

and I like www.marksdailyapple.com which I find a refreshingly normal look at how to live an optimised life that isn't just about dieting.

I've gone off a lot of blogs I used to enjoy, but still really like arosieoutlook.com - she writes on a range of topics, from homes to fashion and beauty but alongside some deeper more thoughtful pieces as well.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread as I've recently become a massive convert to podcasts and listening to them pretty much exclusively during my commute.

Lore is a great starting point and I hadn't heard of it before until Baar mentioned it on another thread. Interesting and a bit creepy http://www.lorepodcast.com/

Criminal is one that I randomly came across and it's interesting in a number of ways, not just about crimes being committed but taking in everything from courtroom artists to police dogs. http://thisiscriminal.com/

My current favourite is http://getmortified.com/ where adults read from their adolescent diaries and it's as hilarious as you'd imagine.

I haven't listened to this yet but http://www.theallusionist.org/ sounds good. Billed as small adventures in language.

I like this. I got the recommendation off you at some point. I just listened to a really good one about a woman who ended up counterfeiting money. They're quite nice and short too. I have also been listening to Untold and Unsolved which are both true crime and a *bit* Serialish.

You Must Remember This is about the history of Hollywood. It hits a dull patch occasionally but I like the gossipy mix of celebrity and history.

Adam Buxton's Podcast, where he basically interviews a lot of people who seem to be his friends, is good & funny. I skip the ones about music after getting bored in a Radiohead one, but most people will probably like those ones.

I agree with Ella that Stuff Mom Never Told You is nicely light, which makes a change for something about something that's as usually humourless as Feminism. ( :uhh: I won't say that in front of men, I promise)

I've pretty much stopped reading lifestyle/beauty/fashion blogs because of time and also because I don't believe them any more. I always assume they are taking $$$ from companies to advertise and that their life is a terrible sham.

I've just downloaded some episodes of Criminal to my phone, for going on holiday.

I loved Untold and I'm looking forward to the next series which is due out later in the year I think.

Oh really? I am only about 5 episodes in. I want to discuss it when I've finished - we should do a thread as I know lots of us are listening or have listened.

I've not listened to any yet, but I've downloaded Tracks from Radio 4. It's a drama with Romola Garai and is meant to be really good.

I still love In Our Time. I just pick and choose which topics seem most interesting, but I especially like the philosophy and religion ones.

I love In our time too Pip. I often don't really understand what they're talking about but it pleases me that people know so much about stuff.

I listened to unsolved today, it was interesting.

We discussed it on the documentary thread but This American Life is very good.
