Christmas crafts 2019

Incorporating hobbies, computer games, Verm's Interesting Links and anything else you can think of excluding football and other spectator sports because these belong in the Sport section, but allowing sports you play yourself with your own body as that counts as a pastime.

Are they white? Did you paint them?

They're all white, no need to paint them.

I've made a vat of mincemeat. I've done it before but this time it's turned out better. It's immense this time (also, probably enough to last for about 3 years). Tomorrow- Christmas cake.

I do love the little snowmen. I've been wanting to make these felt ornaments for the last few years and I'm determined to make at least a couple this year.

Mine are v pale wood too actually now I look at them properly. They look fine as they are though for the snowmen, no need to paint. They are definitely the same ones I bought to make them last year.

Those felt ornaments are so cute Kleio.

Those are so cute but look v fiddly to make, Kleio.

My husband brought home the ugliest tree ornament the other day. A turquoise shark wearing a santa hat covered in glitter. :woteva:

Oh found it.

If your back's against the wall, turn around and write on it.

I’m going to attempt to make our own wrapping paper, by which I mean decorate brown paper. We have stamps, so I’ve got some Christmassy coloured ink pads and we’ll see how we get on!

Can brown paper still be recycled if it’s got paint on it?

I was planning to use ink but not sure if that is ok for recycling?

I was going to use ink too so I’ll have to look into it.

I was thinking of just using brown paper (undecorated) and maybe plain black, then dressing up with green ribbons and trim. I love wrapping paper but it would be good to do something simpler (and cheaper) and easier to recycle.

Beatrix wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2019 1:14 pm Decorated brown paper wrapping paper is excellent and I can't wait to do it with M when she's a bit older, although maybe she might manage a potato stamp - whether I can carve one is another matter.
I have a trick for potato stamping - you can use cookie cutters for the shape rather than carving. Just chop the potato in half and press the cutter in. Use a knife to cut the up to the cutter and when yo remove the cutter you're left with the shape. No skill required!
