The Good Life (gardening chat)

Incorporating hobbies, computer games, Verm's Interesting Links and anything else you can think of excluding football and other spectator sports because these belong in the Sport section, but allowing sports you play yourself with your own body as that counts as a pastime.

I think mine come every year? Although I feel like I've got more globemasters this year than last.

The leaves aren't massively dissimilar to tulips, Toast. But they come out the ground rather than from the stem.

I think they are aliums then. I'm probably remembering incorrectly but there were some in the garden when I first moved here which I thought had much finer leaves. I will attempt a sniff test next time I'm out there!

Ah, the huge headed ones I have aren't globemasters (I've got some of those too - the woman who owned this place before us clearly loved alliums so there's a lot of them dotted about)

The massive head chaps are these:

They are lovely. I like those displays you see at flower shows where they're all the same height and size. So striking.

They really do, they're always one of my favourite Chelsea stands (Chelsea  )

You probably already know this, Smal, but the RHS are doing virtual things in lieu of Chelsea:

I saw it as a headline and meant to go back and read the detail, but forgot. But I will!

I got the same heucheras as you Rebs. :)) And a lobelia too so possibly the same. They're out waiting to be planted now and I can't recall the others offhand, but no hostas thankfully. I'm also getting a delivery of some specific things from the local garden centre tomorrow, including some much needed marigolds and nasturtiums to protect my edibles.

Yes, I've just looked at my local place and they're more sorted now with a proper online menu for ordering specific plants, so that's cool.

I've planted the lobelias and salvias so far, in the sunniest bed right next to the patio.

The schizostylis are winter flowering - I think I already have some in the upper back garden - so I want them somewhere nicely visible from the house. I killed the last heucheras I had. I think they got baked, so I'll put these somewhere a bit more shady.

The app you recommended is really good, Beatriz. Thanks again.

This is a weed isn’t it?

I was a bit abrupt there. I need to use more smilies :)

I will leave it and report back. Not much grows in that particular spot so it'll be just my luck that the weeds love it!

W and I had a lovely day planting yet more seeds, and potting on others. He absolutely loves any gardening, its brilliant. We've run out of space in the mini greenhouse and most window fills so now we're filling up the hallway.

My Acer made a baby! I've just spotted it in a pot underneath.

Baby acer!

It's great that W is so into gardening.

I planted the rest of my stash today. Now I want to get on and order some bedding....
