The Good Life (gardening chat)

Incorporating hobbies, computer games, Verm's Interesting Links and anything else you can think of excluding football and other spectator sports because these belong in the Sport section, but allowing sports you play yourself with your own body as that counts as a pastime.

It's cute smal, I like it.

Yeah, the compost just looks dry, which makes sense if you hadn't added anything for a while. Mine doesn't have a top (it's a giant heap behind the shed under a tree). It might be a bit unbalanced in some way, not had enough squishy veg stuff or something.

I found a whole worm nest in mine! I had accidentally put half of it in the wheelbarrow, so I had to relocate them all back into the heap.

Oh it looks really lovely Bea. It's a lovely border. That peony is beautiful with the dappled pink colouring.

My elder is blooming now but my peonies remain as balls.

Looking nice though! One of my peonies is well over, another couple in full bloom and another one is like yours, they're really varied!

Ah, I've assumed the ones I've seen on here had bloomed because you're further south but not so. I did get the idea of stringing them up from seeing the contraption linked to on here.

I definitely get the impression is more about what variety, two of mine are more or less side by side and when one is forming buds the other is still shooting up out the ground.

Beatrix, your blooms are absolutely gorgeous.

My ceanothus is in full flower. I'm in love with it because my garden is tiny and this is the main thing. It is massive and needs a big hair cut (like the rest of us really!). It is meant to be a tree but you can't see its tiny trunk.

Oh you're so lucky. My ceanothus is coming to the end of its bloom for spring.

Aah, I'll miss it when it fades. I was frustrated how late it seemed to flower compared to others I saw on my walks but it has been well worth the wait.

There was something in an episode of gardener's world the other week talking about how they all bloom at different times so I think it definitely depends on the type/variety.
