Covid vaccines for kids

That’s interesting that yours had them a month apart, Jet. What are the guidelines in the UK on that? Over here it’s 8 weeks apart (mine will be 9 weeks due to school camp and my work getting in the way)

It was supposed to be 3 weeks, but we had issues with Christmas vaccine site closures and then the one we were supposed to go to was closed due to cold weather (it's outdoor in tents, run by the military) so it ended up being further apart. But yes, over here they don't have as big a gap between for some reason.

Both of mine had their vaccines as soon as available (last November) and the two doses were 4 weeks apart which is standard here for adults too.

It all depends on the type of vaccine. We all had Pfizer/Moderna which are 4 weeks apart but AZ is 8 weeks.

I know absolutely no one that got kids between 5 - 11 vaccinated and of the 11 - 17 age group I think about 50%. Most people have said there is no point: the young kids hardly get ill from it, if they have any symptoms at all, and they can pass it on regardless of vaccination status.

I had no idea the Florida man was an anti-vax crackpot. In that case, I don't think other states/countries will be rushing to follow in his footsteps!

Sorry but this kind of ignorant attitude from those who think there is no point really pisses me off. I'm struggling to be sympathetic to people who don't know how this works after these 2 years. Yes, children rarely get ill from it. But community transmission - which they lead on - is what kills the vulnerable and leads to variants.

Exactly, Luce. I’ve had that conversation multiple times.

The gap for kids between jabs interests me as there’s such variation. I hope that having 9 weeks between shots for my two hasn’t exposed them to too much risks. It’s 4 weeks for adults and 8 weeks for kids as standard here.

R (12) got her booster dose last week. She had to wait until it had been 6 months since her 2nd dose. She had 4 weeks between the first two. And as B is a little younger he got the pediatric dosage, which suggests an 8 week gap. (We opted for a 6 week gap because of the huge wave of cases at the time.)

I was surprised to learn only 30% of kids 5-11 here are fully vaccinated. It's so low in comparison to other age groups.

I had a look at the stats published yesterday and the 5-11 age group looks like it’s going ok in terms of uptake. The second shots stats are low but in theory, based on when they started offering the vaxx and the recommended gap, they’re only a couple of weeks in.

It's really sad after they were doing so well there initially. My brother's living there at the moment and I'm a bit worried for him but he's fully vaccinated.

That’s my two double vaxxed now. S has complained of a sore arm already (it’s been 3 hours) and asked for a paracetamol. J seems ok for now but we shall see.

They’ve opened up vaccine booking for children now, so I’ve booked V in for tomorrow morning.

Oh that's great! I've put a reminder in my calendar for Liv's - kids need to wait 12 weeks after testing positive before having the vaccination.

V didn’t have any at all (or if she did, she’s not mentioned it). It’s been about 10 days since her vaccination now.
