Best to not speculate. Everyone is just doing their own thing in their own way and that’s fine.

It’s really hard though, I panicked that I’d not done the “right” thing.

It’s crazy, isn’t it? So many people doing their own ‘right thing’ for their own reasons is bound to make us second guess our own choices.
I’m glad someone with covid isn’t babysitting your kids though, emma :))

I agree with all of thisEdith Bacon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 9:34 pm It’s crazy, isn’t it? So many people doing their own ‘right thing’ for their own reasons is bound to make us second guess our own choices.

Re: Testing times - Covid in 2022
Definitely a dodged bullet, e_p, so to speak!
Flatmate is definitely going to this empty house to wait out her isolation. That is good on the one hand but it also makes me feel really, really guilty. This is her home too (actually more hers than mine, she’s been here longer), and I’m fine with helping her to isolate here if she was willing to do it. But now I’m the reason for her upping sticks temporarily so I feel damned either way. She’s also just decided to go without really talking to me about (making a plan and informing me of it) it so it’s made me feel like a child. What a fucking minefield.

It sounds like she a child, Epp; being really selfish and flouncing off when called out… is she 14?
Try not to feel guilty - you’ve done nothing wrong at all.

Yes, she’s the one being weird. I hope she’s driving herself to that other flat

She didn’t flounce! I’m making her sound worse than she probably is. She genuinely sees it as the best possible option to reduce exposure (true) and ‘relax’ (her words). She did admit that she would be a disaster trying to isolate here, in that she probably wouldn’t be able to stick to it (and this morning proves it  ) which is what I wanted to hear her admit really. Which is why she didn’t try particularly hard I suppose. Weirdly if the shoe were on the other foot I think I’d deal much better with the confinement.
Yes she is driving herself there and has ordered a contactless grocery delivery.
Anyway, she’s gone now and I can close some windows as it’s bloody freezing. Thank you for letting me wang on. I’ll test on Friday and hope I’m negative!

I'm glad she was at least gracious in her isolating elsewhere but it's quite shocking that she was so complacent. Phew thoug. Breathe a sigh of relief and fingers crossed you remain negative.

Re: Testing times - Covid in 2022
I know that might seem obvious to some but given that loads of us are still going to work when our family members and children are positive, I don't think that's a weird thing to ask. If I was him I would probably not think it was a good idea to come but would be worried I was letting you down. People have dramatically different boundaries at the moment.emma_p wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 7:28 pm I'm glad your flatmate can leave! I'm a it shocked that she didn't try to protect you more though.
My brother just called to say that his middle son has just tested positive. He's in London teaching and was meant to be staying here tonight and babysitting. He asked if I still wanted him to come and babysit. Um no!? (He is testing negative and able to get on a train home to Devon tonight so I think that is a better plan).
24 kids in our school have tested positive today.

Not to disagree with anything that anybody has said about Epp's housemate and fuck that shit on the Peleton, but if you're going to isolate totally on your own in a house that isn't home, with a virus that can be utterly dreadful (lethal) then its actually quite a brave decision to make.

I know what you mean, Twatters. I did tell her that I was also worried about the fact that should she take a turn for the worst, god forbid etc., then she will be alone. And I didn’t want her to go because of that. But she is an absolute bastard at letting people help her, and she’ll be feeling blasé that it’ll probably be mild. I’ve got her address so I know where to send an ambulance.

It’s good that there is a plan for if she needs medical assistance. I’m guessing that someone who was having a spin on the Peloton didn’t have imminent death at the forefront of her mind.

Yeah, I don’t think it needs to be treated as the Black Death by most people. Clinically vulnerable and non vaccinated people, of course. But for the very vast majority at the moment it really feels safe enough to be on your own and I’d argue that if you thought otherwise (unless clinically vulnerable) then one might have lost a bit of perspective. I’d be quite concerned about a healthy person being scared to be on their own if they had Covid, I think.
Epp, I’m glad she’s pissed off and you can close a window.

Re: Testing times - Covid in 2022
Ooh that’s me down. So weird, I feel much better than I did yesterday and yesterday I was negative and today was such a quick positive! Luckily I’ve been isolating anyway, just in case.
For symptom checkers, my most annoying thing at the moment is the deep ache in my right hip. It’s been driving me mad. Other than that, I don’t have any other symptoms than just feel a bit off. I’m double jabbed and boosted etc.
