I'm throwing money at it. It'll be one day with a psychiatrist, one with a doctor, and some Zoom consultations, over the next few months. If we weren't able to go private, it would be a few years on a waiting list and a lot more reliant on school's report (which would be useless as he's not disruptive in the slightest, other than to his own life prospects).

I'm a big fan of the throwing money at it solution. Before he's 18 because he'll never do it himself.

It's going to be different for him though. He's going to get the help, tools and medication he needs, thanks to you. The story isn't being repeated xxx

I hope your son feels better once he has a diagnosis. Do you think he'll go for medication? There's loads of evidence that medication in kids helps them grow positive neural pathways long term. https://www.additudemag.com/long-term-e ... ion-brain/

I have 5 days of elvanse left. I take a low dose of 30mg but I'm dreading being without. I'm in peak stressful times right now, major restructure at work and final assignment due next Friday

Oh that's rough. Is there any sign of the shortage easing?

I think he will try medication, yes. We've tried every strategy I can think of already, so hoping this is the answer.

I think medication gives such a mental break. It stops that relentless drive and swirling thoughts and helps being able to do things you have to do. I hope Joe gets it too.

Apparently March or April for stocks to be back to normal ish. I hope.

:mog: I hadn't considered this impact of drug shortage.

I'm glad you've got Joe's diagnosis sorted, smurf. Eldest niece remains undiagnosed for various reasons and it's hard to watch when I KNOW BEST.

Honestly, fuck being a teacher during the drug shortage because I am about to kill my own child, even though I fully understand it is not his fault :))

I am now terrified he will not get diagnosed, ofc. I cannot deal with trying to teach him to be a competent human, I can barely manage it myself. I nearly lost my shit last night because, after we spent ages on a planner, and helping him keep track of school work, and making sure it was all done on time, HE FORGOT TO HAND IT IN. Give. Me. Strength. Also give him drugs.

I hear you. Drugs will help. But he's still gonna have to learn some stuff. I mean, he's still a teenage boy, drugs aren't gonna fix that!

Unfortunately we have some of that with meds :uhh: Sorry :)) S has form for remembering things but totally last minute and then having a breakdown. L is currently failing (hate saying it like this, but in the numbers game, it is what it is) math and we agreed he'd try to focus on doing one math assignment a day to get caught back up and he went to school today and forgot.
Half-ten?! Half-ten?! I've never been up at half-ten! What happens?

Sorry to barge in with no experience, but shouldn't teachers also be responsible for reminding kids to hand in homework and do maths exercises?

Teachers can (and likely do!) remind kids frequently, but if they left their homework on the floor of their bedroom (even though their mother said "put it straight in your backpack" and they said they would), it still ain't getting handed in.

This week R keeps forgetting to complete a recent assignment, not because she can't, but because the teacher gave them loads of time to do it. So it dropped out of her brain, and now it's late. If she had been told to finish it and hand it in immediately, it would have been submitted. I'm having to give her daily reminders until it's done.

The disorganization is so real.

Brains are fun.

I do a deadline driven job for a reason. :)) It's been quiet at work for a while and I am getting fuck all done because there's no LOOMING DEADLINE OF DEATH AND DESPAIR. And motivation.

I really hate my inability to get started on stuff until a deadline is looming. Unless it's something really bothering me
