Personally it changes nothing really as we don't have to commute, can shop whenever we want, and restaurants etc have been closed for over 2 months any way. And there has been an 8pm curfew since we came out of lockdown in mid-dec (I think!).

I don't know if it can do much - I suppose it must do since they been using it as a measure in areas that are harder hit for ages now, but I don't really see how. I suppose it must limit socialising even more?

I am the same. Boris hasn't even bothered to make a rash promise that we will "definitely" be back after half-term, which doesn't bode well.

I’ve only just vaguely accepted half term.

I do at least have faith in the Scottish Govt that they will prioritise opening schools (safely) over anything else.

I thank God pretty much every day that I no longer have a school age child to educate. Serious respect to every parent fighting that daily battle!

This is really interesting and something I've been concerned about. Not sure how much people have read about the school Covid testing but the original plans were to remove isolation periods for contacts of positive cases, as long as they got a daily negative test at school.

When I heard this at school (the day we had training in testing before closures were announced), I was really shocked that someone who could perhaps be living with a Covid positive parent or sibling could continue coming to school, particularly as the tests are known for false negatives.

The theory is sound and it would obviously be great to get people back in school or work but the article details how inaccurate the tests can be, especially when used on asymptomatic people and administered by people who don't really know what they're doing. I wonder if there is a better way or if other countries are doing this.

Same here. My 91 year old neighbour who went into a home about 6 months ago sadly caught covid there in December and died in early Jan. We've been sent a video link for Tuesday

My best friend is organising her mum's funeral right now and - it's so upsetting - no clothes allowed; they can't choose anything for her mum, D, to be dressed in. K is pragmatic and has just ordered a a beautiful blanket but it's really hard to think of those you know...it seems really undignified to be in coffin naked. I dunno. It's not my huge loss to feel but I feel it for my K and her lovely mum I've known 30 years.

Edited because it feels so callous to say it's not my "huge loss". It's not. It's not my mum, thank goodness but it is a huge loss and I want to hug K and I can't. Yet I will. we will have to for a split second just to touch base,

That’s awful Disco. We were able to take clothes in for my dad but we forgot to take underpants and I feel really bad about that! A nice blanket sounds lovely though.

I'm not sure of the reason at the moment. I'm going for a walk with K tomorrow as she wants to walk and talk. She hasn't been joining our Friday zoom pub nights because her 90 year old dad is really lonely and feeling the loss very acutely. However, they are literally at the clinic right now waiting for his vaccination so that's really good news.
