I’ve lost a whole 1.5 lbs in 3 weeks of 16:8 fasting (albeit not every day). I think it’s safe to say it’s not working for me? Or is it? I’m so fucked off .

Do you lose weight at a lag? I often do. I might stick with it for a while longer if so.

I'd give it a bit longer, Ella. It was almost 4 weeks before those bloody scales shifted for me this time.

Thanks. I stress-ate the world today, so that helped, obviously.

What does 16:8 involve? I don't know much about fasting.

I'm keeping on with the calorie counting. I've got my groove now and Nutracheck is great. Managing around 1300-1400 a day plus time on the exercise bike so hopefully the weight will come off soon although I think I must have a bit of a lag too.

The thing that’s been increasingly bothering me about IF is that although the case for it is quite good, the sources and articles discussing it never seem to account for sex, which made me wonder if it was yet another of those things that was studied in men and then assumed to apply universally. I’m starting to think that might be right, and that maybe it is a bad choice for women.

I haven’t been able to find much about this at all online, but this is an interesting read.

And also this, which criticised it a little.

And there are plenty of witless idiots talking about gender in this context instead of sex, so all bets are off there.

I’ve also restarted 16:8 in the past couple of weeks and done it most days - it helped me shift a few kg last summer. I do think it works but it’s not particularly quick, in my experience...and stating the obvious I know but its success is really dependent on what you eat during the 8.

I’m 1.5kg down in the past week but I actually think that’s likely to be more down to the fact that I’ve drastically reduced sugar consumption...or maybe a combination of both.

I do a form of 16 / 8 I suppose just accidentally . I'm doing calorie counting/slimming world as well though. I don't seem to have lost anything for two weeks, however my scales are all over the place. I try and weigh the same time in the same stuff, but I can seriously veer up and down by about 5 lbs in a day. I think the scales are not too accurate either. I took key measurements today to try and gauge loss that way. I have a too tight pair of trousers I'm trying on each week (still too tight) Any good scales recommendations?

I've seen good reviews for renpho scales Marth, but I'm very happy with my cheapy salter scales from aldi.

The IF thing is interesting, I've been accidentally doing it too, mainly because I don't eat after 6. I am mainly calorie counting though, but it is so slow (and so dull).

Thanks Mayday. I've heard good things about Salter scales. I might look at some new ones. I can't find any makers name on mine. I don't want to get hung up on weighing but do need to see the scales going down. I had to shut them in the loft yesterday because I was obsessing about the fluctuations. They are back out now though!

I know what you mean Marth. I use a really good app which shows the fluctuations as a trend. I find it really helpful to see that even though my weight is up and down I can see the overall loss. Its called libra if you wanted a look.

The fluctuations are wild arent they. Our digital scale seems quite accurate, S and W weigh in quite consistently and then I can vary 4lbs one day to another (which leads me to presume it really is me!)

Menopause just makes everything harder. My friend who is the same age as did did the same diet with her mum who lives with her. Her mum lost weight. She stayed the same.

I am definitely very round these days. There is a difference of 20 cm from right under my bust to around my middle. I am peared. I was always quite boyish but hourglass. Now I am matronly :toot:

I always had a bit of a lower belly. Now I’ve got an upper belly right under my tits as well. So attractive :flirt:

I accidentally do 16:8 most days too and even though I’ve been watching what I eat, knocked snacking and alcohol on the head I’m a good 5lbs heavier than I usually am and haven’t lost any weight at all.

I’m working out daily but have noticed that I’m just spreading. I seem to have an additional layer of fat on my back and arms in addition to my usual problem area of thighs. :ruby:

I find that my scales need me to stand on them to get them going but then I stand on them again and I'm 3lbs lighter, every time. They're always accurate one day to the next though and within the day. They're Salter.

I'm going to check out the Libra app, thanks for the recommendation.
