I’m sure you’ll go from strength to strength again this year, Duo!

I’ll be doing a bit less racing for the first half of this year, as I’m doing a backyard event in June. (Also, I go up an age group this year, but new rules mean I’d still be pegged against runners in my current age forum, so I’m not planning on trying for champs points this year)

I’d entered a half for this Feb, but I’m currently completely out of shape 😅

I’ll definitely post up anything I do enter though 👍🏻

Completed the last in the South by Five series. It's an offshoot of an old 16-mile race that took in all the parks in the southside of Glasgow. The race was stopped years back and this is the replacement. I do it every year as I love it and each park has its own trail challenges.

The course for this is probably technically the most difficult in the series. It starts at the top of the park which offers great views over Glasgow so it's a fast downhill tarmac section before we take to the trails and start to make our way back uphill on a 7% gradient. There are supposedly 9 hills in the park and I think we covered most of them. The awful weather ensured that it was as treacherous uphill as it was downhill.

Once we've covered these up and downhill sections three times we were back on tarmac and a short downhill section before we the final climb. The climb is a 7.6% gradient hill with a short flight of stairs halfway up, once you get your 'Rocky' steps moment there's more of the hill to navigate before turning right and continuing to climb until we're back at the top of the park.

I also won 'most improved runner' as I PB'd on every course this series.

Flat course on the parkrun section of Strathclyde Park. The route had changed from last year so it was an out and back rather than the traditional loop.

Gusty conditions so only managed to get under 5 min kms for a couple of km before having to run into the wind but overall happy with my performance.

I won't be racing for a couple of weeks after Sunday as I'm shattered and need the rest. :)

That's me finished racing for a while and managed to bag another two PBs

The Renfrewshire is really local to me so I always do it. The weather is always awful but this year it was a pleasant surprise, not too windy and the temps had risen that weekend so it was practically tropical. Started with a small group, binned off two of them after 2 miles so it was me and two men with me battling to keep up with them. One started to pull away 4 miles in and I knew I'd never catch him and the other had a burst of speed 400m from the finish line. Didn't have enough left to keep up but another PB so overall I was chuffed.

Willow Bowl - this is a trail race with a horrendous uphill from 400m from the start, the uphill continues for a mile and I started in a group again. The race is a conceding handicap so the slower runners go out first and I knew that I'd have faster runners chasing me down. Me and three men, one in his 60s who is a trail and XC stalwart so I knew as soon as he got to the hill he'd be off but I knew that I had to take it easy so I had enough in the tank to get around the remaining 10k after the hill. The men took off and I wanted to catch them as they had been the ones to beat me in the 5 mile road race and I knew that I would as I do this route on a semi-regular basis. Caught them both halfway up the hill as they'd taken off too fast and left them behind, they didn't manage to make any further gains and came in a few minutes behind me. Another PB by just over 4 mins which was better than I thought I'd do but I had to keep calm as I registered the 10k distance as 50:50 so I knew that I'd be possibly under the 1hr 5min mark.

I haven't updated this for a while and although I'm still posting on here solo I thought I'd continue to update.

Acorn Trails 10k - this was two 5km loops on muddy technical trails in a popular park in Glasgow. I had a target in mind that if I came in under 55 mins then I'd be happy. Difficult to race these events as they're very much dependent on conditions underfoot.
It had been torrential rain the day before so it was muddy and I just did my best on the uphills - target achieved by scraping under 55 mins.

GGH Docherty Cup - this 10 miler was nearly called off due to Storm Kathleen but went ahead. The strongest gusts were expected while running along the coast against the wind.
It wasn't pleasant on the way out - started off with two other runners both faster than me but because I'd been training all throughout the winter and especially during other storms (I don't run indoors) so I knew when to push the pace. Used the lead runner as a wind break but occasionally broke away purposely during a gust to tire him out and did that enough times that he was knackered after two miles. Left the other runner not long after and gambled that I'd done enough into the wind to guarantee that at the turning point they'd be so far behind that I'd be able to coast it back in with the wind at my back.
Pitched it perfectly and came in two/three minutes ahead of them with a PB 01:23:03

I haven’t had any events to speak of, sorry :( I was entered for a long, lapped event at the start of June, so had forgone racing in favour of long run training. Except that never happened and I’ve pulled out of the event now.

I hope to enter some more races soon, but my fitness is really pants at the moment.

I hope you're doing ok Moj.

It was 10 miler yesterday, it's the second time I've completed this route. A mainly flat jaunt along a canal path, with some elevation at the turning point. It's an out-and-back with a looped turn so there's no sharp doubling back losing time.

It hasn't been the best race prep this week but the weather was ok, some rain and I just wanted to get it done. Had a pace band set on my watch for 4:55/5:05 m/k and slowest pace 5:11 at the turning point due to elevation. Nowt much more to say to that :fish:
