Does anyone use Wise?

Post by Epponnee Rae »

If so, do you have any positive or negative experiences with it? I’m looking for ways to get some of my savings from the US to the UK at better rates and lower fees than a standard bank transfer.

Wise seems to be a decent option but would love to hear any views from TMT experience. Also if you do use it, like it and want to share a referral link, I’d be happy to click it so you get a bonus :)

I haven't heard of Wise but we just used the standard bank transfer when we moved $$ back from savings recently. The rates/fees weren't terrible though because our account is with S's old work's credit union.

We've always used Wise to transfer money to Mr5's daughter and it's easy with the best rates (we could find) and has always been reliable.

Yes, thumbs up from me. Used them to transfer money between the two countries I used to live in before this one and back to the Uk and vice versa. Never had any issues and it was always very quick.

The only reason I don’t use it anymore is that my UK bank shut down my account because of the country I live in now and sodding Brexit. Bastards.

I used Wise for a significant international transfer and the rates were much better than I would have got from my bank, and it allowed me to choose the point at which I converted so as to get the best rate :trader:

My account came with a debit card but I have never used it either at home or abroad so can't vouch for it.

Brilliant, thank you all! Great to know that it doesn’t seem to have poor experiences here. If anyone is actively still using it and wants to get a referral perk do please DM me your referral link, happy to use it when I sign up :)

I suspect my standard big US bank’s rates won’t be that good, e_p, and will get whacked with fees too hence looking for a safe but more beneficial alternative!

I have used Wise before for Euro conversion and it’s been fine. I think the exchange rates are quite competitive.
