Tax Return 2020-2021

Does anybody know how to claim the working from home tax relief (for the year 2020-2021) through self assessment? I checked on the HMRC site and it says you have to claim it through your tax return form, but I can't see where.

I've just done this and it really wasn't evident. I looked and looked. Eventually I found the expenses bit when I went into my paye employment.

Oh, the bit with capital allowances? Will try that, thanks. I don't have any (that I know of- not sure what they are).
Did you have to calculate the amount yourself, e.g. £6/week x 52?

I'm struggling to remember, but I don't think I had to do that. It was a pain finding it.
I've had my tax letter through already with my amended tax code

I didn't get an amended tax code, I don't think. They said it had to be done through Self Assessment. God, this is riveting

Me too, I’m sure it was just a check box confirmation thing, I’m not sure if the link to get to it though as it was sent out in a work comms :helpful: definitely didn’t have to do any calcs though.

Oh god I do my actual self assessment at the end of January each year
this is a different thing you can just do a checkbox for if you are PAYE.

I understood you can’t do the quick PAYE thing if you do a self-assessment though.
All my knowledge on this comes from Martin Lewis, mind.

Thanks, wendy, that sounds like what I did. Yes, the quick PAYE thing isn’t available if you do a tax return.

I can't bear to leave mine either! My employer has given all staff the £6 a week through expenses (as a lump sum every quarter) which has made life easier.

Me too.
It's not like you have to pay it early. Being self-employed it's very useful to know how much I'll owe nine months in advance.

I think it’s useful for everybody as you might have to put money aside, or whatever. I usually pay in about November :dull:.
