I'd go for a madiera based recipe personally. Its firmer which you'd need.

Didn't Purple Dress find a good one for shaping recently?

That looks beautiful, Smal.

I’ve only just seen this but I find this recipe works well https://charlotteslivelykitchen.com/cho ... hday-cake/
Tex's response to p_d (and she said that was the one she'd used).

I made a cake! The first decorated one for ages. Chocolate Fudge and Kahlua
Oh my goodness, I hope that travels well in the post to me.

I hate following smals, amazing creation! But here is the cake I made for Conchie's birthday today! I've never made madeira cake before and it turned out quite heavy, so I wasn't very happy with it. I was pleased the inside worked though!

That looks amazing! I expect it worked better with a denser crumbed cake.

That’s amazing Rhod! Also, you seem to have made that cake about 8 months too early, surely?

Thank you for being kind!

Pip, I know! He's still only about 6 months old in my head. That was how old he was at the start of lockdown, so I feel like I've lost all these extra months somewhere.
