Ooof that ploughman's looks immense.
We ate at Ping Pono (?) yesterday in Westfield Stratford. I presume it's a chain but I haven't heard of it. It was the only place without a 3hr queue outside. It was pretty nice, actually. We had about 300 dim sum dishes.

Ping Pong, smal. :)) Yes, it's a chain, but I love their dim sum.

Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
There's even a Ping Pong in DC!
The food options near Yellowstone are so bad. We ate at a lakeside lodge one night as we were late back from seeing bison on the far side of the park and the menu was so limited we that have cooked or taken picnics for the rest of our stay. The view at the restaurant was beautiful but it was just like being in Ozark

We went to a local Italian last night, Battlefield Rest. It is always mobbed and they have a tendency to squeeze in too many folk but the food is excellent.

Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
I like both Ping Pong and Anchor line for drinks.
I went here in Friday: https://www.absurdbird.com Really good free range fried chicken, and excellent cocktails.
Yesterday I went here: https://oklava.co.uk Excellent Turkish food and wine. They say it's tapas style, but actually each dish came out on its own which was a little odd. Plus they recommend two or three of the bigger plates each. We had two each (plus a couple of the smaller snacks) and were massively stuffed so I think I'd go for one flatbread, one vegetable and one meat/fish between two next time, especially as one of the puddings was also huge. I'll definitely be back though as the food was delicious.
Today I've had Brick lane street food (sushi, Korean bap, gelato, Japanese sponge cake things filled with custard) which was all lovely.

Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
Finally got to try the new Mexican place and it was brilliant.
We had...
Hibiscus margaritas
Aubergine and chickpea tostadas
A sort of Mexican scotch egg
Calamari
Ox cheek tacos
A "naked" burrito of sweet potato, feta etc which came in two huge plates and an extra serving of guacamole
...and it came to £23 each. Bloody bargain. I'm going again on Saturday with B I think, he'll love it.

Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
Oh, hell yes Del. That sounds brilliant.
I went to my local pub last night for steak night, which is a very good deal (£25 for two steak and chips and salad, and a bottle of house wine) but obviously not the greatest steak and the execution varies massively. Last night they actually managed to cook the steaks as requested but the chips weren't fresh and were very obviously frozen oven chips that had been sitting in the freezer too long. I couldn't eat them.
WHY DID WE NOT GO TO THE VIETNAMESE DOWN THE ROAD. I DON'T KNOW. LAZINESS.

I'm always dubious of those Steak Night deals. Steak feels like something you shouldn't compromise on.

Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
Yeah, I've made it a resolution to only eat fillet in restaurants now as I always get annoyed at sinew and poor cooking otherwise.

Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
We were at a local Italian on Tuesday and ended up at Hard Rock this evening. Both were lovely in different ways.
I'm with Smal, I'd probably go to a specialist steak house if I wanted one.

You said on this very thread that you were going to stop going to the hit and miss pub and try more of the newly opened local places! I weep for your wasted dining opportunity

Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
I know! I was working late and rushed and it was the no-thinking option. And I agree about steak night deals. I'm just weak in the face of the tiny tiny distance to walk, and the word "pub".

We had the tasting menu here last night. http://www.the-white-peacock.co.uk/food ... menus.html
I had 9 courses with wine; I've always wanted to do a matching wine thing and it was amazing. The Black Muscat tasted like roses (though oddly made me think wallpaper when I first tasted it :synaesthesia:

Last night we went to Black Dove, one of my local favourites. My favourite thing was the tempura cauliflower with masala chickpeas.

That sounds brilliant Pip. And the wine flight is very reasonable. I've always wanted to do one but they're usually so expensive.
