Re: Weekly meals plan
We’ve been trialling ‘alternative dinner’ on the meal plan. So I can plan something mushroom based and Sproglette gets to opt out and make herself eg spag bol. Or they can have something pasta based and I have something from the freezer.
Otherwise they get what’s planned. Often deconstructed or a small portion of eg curry and they’ll mainly eat the rice. :))

Re: Weekly meals plan
G does (although he will have parmesan instead of blue cheese tonight) but Liv often has a plainer version of what we’re having (she’s having a peas in her risotto and cherry tomatoes on the side as she hates rocket.
I don’t want to cook completely separate meals!

I really like the sound of the Brussel sprout risotto
I never wanted to be cooking different meals. It's such a pain. Adapting is much more doable though isn't it.

Is the celeriac shawarma the one from the Rovi book? We made it a few times during lockdown. It’s lovely. (Although after getting SIX celeriac in one veg box, I ditched it for a long time.)

Re: Weekly meals plan
Mine will eat something and love it and then totally refused to try it the next time. I save anything really spicy or expensive like steak etc for days when they eat in nursery, and also do some plainer options (so eg for prawn fried rice I'll also do some plain rice and prawns). If they don't fancy the meal at all they can have bread, and I always do extra veg (eg peas/corn/peppers).
We have a rule that 'you don't have to eat anything you don't like' mainly as I was horrendously fussy as a child and so I don't want to make them feel forced to eat anything.

Re: Weekly meals plan
Which book is it in? I was googling for the recipe and couldn’t find it. I used a random recipe I found from Oddbox which suggested the celeriac would take 1hr to roast. Spoiler: it didn’t.

I think it took about 6 hours when I did it. It’s in Flavour. Do you have it? I can take a photo if not. Edit: ok, weird, I must have combined the recipe on p54 with a Googled recipe for the green sauce, now I look at it?

Re: Weekly meals plan
I have Flavour (and all their other books apart from their newest one this month) but thank you! I don’t think that’s the shawarma recipe they use in Rovi though. I’m not sure they have published it?

Yeah, I’m sorry, I think I was accidentally talking shit there. I used their recipe for the celeriac, but I had to try to cobble together an approximation of the green sauce and the bread from various places online. It was really nice though!

Re: Weekly meals plan
I've made the celariac steaks with cafe de Paris sauce before and they are amazing. Took 2-3 hours to roast though so no good for a week-night! The spice mix I used from the oddbox recipe was good and it looked like it was meant to on the outside it just needed more of it and loads more time in the oven. I'll try it again but would love the actual Rovi recipe.

Re: Weekly meals plan
Meal plan this week is based on things with minimal cutting and ease of eating with one left arm.
Buffalo chicken tenders, homemade chips and salad
Meatballs and pasta
Chicken, lentil and spinach curry
BBQ beef brisket, mash and green beans
Something involving pork fillet (J is a recent convert which is exciting as the 4 of us can eat the same thing!)

Re: Weekly meals plan
I am so hopeless at forward planning so Monday was a veggie chowder followed by apple and pomegranate cobbler and custard/ice cream.
Tues: roasted beetroot and carrot salad with black lentils, spinach, feta, toasted pumpkin seeds and a lemon mint dressing
Weds: courgette carbonara, rocket green bean and parmesan salad. Poached pears with custard/creme fraiche for dessert.
Tonight the plan is sweet potato falafel but it's also Liv's ballet which is 6-7 so right across dinner prep time so who knows. Could be take out pizza! :))

Wendy! Do you have the recipe for the schnitzel please?
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.
