I have a kohlrabi needing using too so have been thinking about it anyway - I'd do a big pot of salad or a slaw with the fennel and kohlrabi (fennel seeds, lemon, caraway, pepper flakes, that kind of thing?) and have it for lunches, or with some fish or chicken. (Simon Rogan also has a whole chapter on kohlrabi which I was intending to look at when I ordered it but now I am too tired to do anything he suggests, because it will inevitably involve pickling a herb that only grows on the beach at midnight while standing on your head. But I will look because he might have an interesting idea that I could scale right down to something I can be bothered with).

He has a cheesy gratin that is straightforward (I can't quite imagine it, but I trust).

All the others make me feel tired but in case: ( the basic way he cooks the kohlrabi might be useful anyway without the bells and whistles?)

a saltbaked kohlrabi with toasted butter and smoked egg yolk,
butter roasted kohlrabi and kale (your favourite!) rolls (it's a snack served with a dill emulsion),
pickled (of course) kohlrabi with rabbit terrine
fermented kohlrabi (with fennel and with buttermilk fried oysters)
and this king of ingredients we all have hanging around, veal and poached oyster kohrabi parcels. :sman:

Pretty sure I'm going for a salad.

I have printed off that courgette recipe, Wendy - it sounds good.

I like grating courgettes, frying them with butter and garlic, then adding some fresh chopped tomatoes (or half a tin) and then a small handful of grated cheese at the end. It makes a lovely creamy garlicky side dish.

My favourite thing to do with BNS is to roast it and put it in a pasta bake with feta, oregano, pine nuts and bacon.

My favourite fennel recipe is this fennel with halloumi, caper, lemon - it is so, so good: https://www.eattherightstuff.com/blog/2 ... hetta.html I make it as a side dish, I don't put it on bread though.

My favourite courgette recipes are Ottolenghi's crushed courgettes: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyl ... ottolenghi and fake Carluccio's courgette pasta. I often make it without the spinach balls because they seem a bit faffy but whenever I do make them I enjoy them so much and wonder why I don't make them more often :)) https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyl ... ottolenghi

Lots of great ideas here thank you all! I need to formulate a plan now.

I need caraway seeds and am not sure why I do not have them.

I love those spinach balls, emma.

My husband famously does not love the spinach balls. :lg: I’ll come round when you make them.

You would be a very welcome guest as I live with a foolish son who is also not enamoured with them although I think he'd eat them without complaint these days.

A colleague gave me this recipe when I mentioned having a massive courgette that needs using up.

Thank you!

I have now solved the courgette dilemma.

Tomatoes on garlic rubbed ciabatta
Chilli con carne with rice
Steak with new potatoes, kohlrabi/ fennel coleslaw

I finally got round to making something similar to this today. Isn't kohlrabi delicious?! I loved it, which is good because I had two (and two fennel heads) so I've made a vat of coleslaw which will accompany most meals for the next couple of days. Also I've finally got caraway seeds.

Oh good! It's lovely, crisp and a little bit bitter. I had mine in a retro tea of cold water prawns, crab, dill and home made salad cream, it made a little bit less 70s. :))

Ooh yum. I confess that I added wholegrain mustard, salad cream and mayo. Monk has only just tried regular coleslaw so I thought I'd make it appeal more with the mayo-iness

I’m home alone this weekend, so the meal plan features recipes I want to try but at know at least one person will turn their nose up at.

Pineapple chana masala
Mushroom supreme
Tomato soup
Saag tofu
Walnut and courgette salad
Mushroom tikka masala
Meatballs and tomato sauce
Tempeh squash bowl
Smoky tofu nuggets, chips and beans

There’s definitely a freezer curry night in the making there too. :ready:

I read your list as all the food you were going to eat this weekend on your own. Good going. :))

So far I've got fishcakes and something with artichokes that were an unexpected veg box surprise. I'm uninspired at the moment.

Elvis helped me select a few things from a book (One Pot Vegan) before she went so I’ve just done the order. It gets freezer based in the run up to our trip North.

Chickpea kofte kebabs
Super green gnocchi
Chimichurri fajitas
Lemony linguine
Lebanese spinach and chickpeas
Roasted potato alla Norma
Sausage, mash and veg
‘Chicken‘ burgers, chips and beans

Wild garlic pesto, goat cheese, kale gigli pasta
Lentil moussaka
Cheese burger and fries
Cheese and bacon pastry things with new potatoes
Courgette salad with pinenuts and sultanas

And something with fennel :ruby:
