Again no photo, but I got some black cod (sablefish) from the farmers market this week and had some this evening with steamed asparagus and a lemon tarragon hollandaise and it was epic. I’ve only ever had it in restaurants (usually Nobu-esque miso style) and it was amazing to just taste the fish on its own, so rich and buttery! :emme: I immediately cooked another piece and inhaled it too. Which I’d bought more now!

Pics or STFU :mog:

This is a photo thread! (And I'm sure it would've looked amazing Epp but pics or it didn't happen).

I have never knowingly had black cod (I probably had it in Japan but not particularly consciously) and it is so expensive here (about £25 a fillet), but it's native to near you isn't it, or at least won't have come as far, so I bet it's more reasonable. Jealous.

I'm jealous too! Although we had similar-ish last night - hake with Suzanne Goin romesco potatoes and asparagus and it was so delicious. I didn't take a photo of that but I did of our dessert. Anna Jones strawberry (and rhubarb) crisp. I didn't add extra sugar to make up for the addition of rhubarb and it was deliciously tart. S, G and I ate the lot between us :ready: (Liv had Gelupo eton mess ice cream so don't feel sorry for her :)) )

Bringing the tone down, leftover fried roast potatoes topped with a fried egg.

That looks alright to me, Skips! Here's today's lunch of roasted tomatoes with lentils and pecorino.

That looks nice Rosa - I've been fancying roasted tomatoes recently but keep failing to get round to it.

I know I know, sorry. I ate it too fast and it would have looked shit anyway.

But yes (to Goat), it is somewhat local apparently. Pacific dwelling and fishing grounds in Alaska are probably the closest source, given that we have lots of fishing boats from there overwintering in Seattle. It was still pricey but probably more reasonable that £25/portion!

In adherence with thread guidelines here’s a dimly lit photo of my dinner of mini caprese and zpaghetti bolognese (Marcella Hasan’s NYT recipe with zoodles)

I’ve just ordered two pounds (weight) of fresh porcini mushrooms to pick up tomorrow and I cannot wait to get my hands on them :disco: Expect mushroom-based meals from me for the foreseeable!

Charge up your phone, Epp!

Tonight we had smoked haddock with capers, puy lentils and spinach. This was the last of the fish I bought from Staal Smokehouse, which nine linked to a while ago.

So many mushrooms

I made cauliflower (plus spinach) in tomato and paprika sauce, goan chicken curry, and gunpowder potatoes. The potatoes in particular were great (dishoom).

Fresh porcini and Rosa's lovely capers. :love2:

Cheeseburger and chips ( bought buns and oven chips :)) ), and today was hake with whipped smoked cod roe, tomatoes, potato cake, courgettes and soft herbs.
