Puffball mushrooms

Post by Little My »

Anyone tried these?

I have a really big puffball (I think - I will know more when I pick it) on my front lawn. Not sure what to do with it though. :))

Disco has, I can feel it in my bones. Fry slices in butter, I think!

Yes. Slice it into a big round and fry it - you can breadcrumb it.

Please don’t die though. I’m haunted by a mushroom identification book that my friend bought me; it had “this is delicious” and “this will kill you” mushrooms on pages facing each other and they looked exactly the same.

ETA: more helpfully, I’ve got a better book now and I can take pictures of the puffball pages if that’s any help.

That would be good, if you have a minute.

My understanding is that if it has gills, then DO NOT EAT. :uhh:

Thank you!

Umm, I'm not loving the phrase "probably edible". I see what you mean..

 I may have to erect a fence around it, because the ride-on mower arrives later today.

I'm curious as to how big it will get if I leave it alone.

Is “inedible” code for “this will definitely kill you”? :))

I like the one that says “edible when young & white”. Racists ;)

The categories are edible, inedible and poisonous. But then it says things like “probably edible” and the more useful “edible and tasty” :)). The poisonous and highly poisonous ones have a skull and crossbones ☠️.
