Watching "Up" on TV just now (even though we have it on DVD - the mark of a truly good film) made me think about a whole host of animated films which I would happily class among my favourite films, never mind anything as specific as this thread title. The quality of these types of films over the last twenty years has come on in leaps and bounds - although there's nothing particularly wrong with a bit of Fantasia or many of the Disney classics. Just a quick look at our DVD shelves reveals a mixture of Pixar and Disney and Dreamowrks and Studio Ghibli classics - among others.

I'd like to know the animated films you've watched and rate, and those which have passed you by.

One that you may not have seen which I would recommend is 'Bolt'.

I am a touch obsessed with Tim Burton so for me it has to be 'Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'Corpse Bride' etc :)

I never really liked Disney and haven't watched any of the films since childhood, apart from Mulan which is quite good. Now I've got kids I've watched and re-watched a few to see which a three year old might enjoy (and not be frightened by); Princess and the Frog was the usual bland with a few good moments, but I was really impressed by Tangled. Animation was absolutely stunning and the comedy was funny, and I can be pretty stony-faced even at comedies I'm enjoying. I'm not a laugh-out-louder, but yeah. Laughed at Tangled.

I also really liked Brave; simple enough story but it was so refreshing to have something real, like mother-daughter conflict or the confines of ones' expectations, rather than the usual romance bumf. Oh, and I broke my 'never buying Disney merchandise EVER' rule and I have the lovely Disney-store-classic Merida doll. For my daughter. I mean me. No, seriously, daughter.

Despite being an anime fan in my teens I haven't seen any Studio Ghibli. I probably should, shouldn't I?

It has to be Finding Nemo, closely followed by Beauty and the Beast. Oh, and I love the Tim Burton ones too. And the Snowman.

Robin Hood, Toy Story and Shrek.

I really love Happy Feet.

I've got a Pixar DVD collection. I think they're proper great.

Will has just discovered the animated films, hes absolutely head over heels with The Incredibles, which unfortunately is my least favourite. I'm trying to move him onto cars, which I quite like.

I love Robin Hood too. We were doing "GET OUT OF MY CHURCH!" belly shoves just the other day :))

Oh! I really like The Incredibles.

Despicable Me, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Over the Hedge. I like the Tim Burton ones too, I also liked Coraline, was that a Pixar one?

Cars is good! I was surprised as critics seem to pan it as 'Pixar's worst' until Cars 2 came along, but I find Cars really gentle and sweet, a perfect first film. Not a single scene to upset even the most sensitive child; no one gets hurt, no cruel insults, no violence. My son, after watching Tangled, Mulan, Little Mermaid and Brave, asked if I knew any films without bad guys. I said there weren't any and he instantly answered 'Cars', so I had to apologise for being very wrong. No bad guys in Cars.

(Cars 2 is all machine guns, explosions, car torture and waterboarding, and weird car infidelity, or so I gleaned from reading about it, so that one can wait a few years.)

Me to! l'niece was fine, I was very uneasy about going to bed with my childhood ragdoll sitting on top of the wardrobe :lol:

Agree with Bolt too, youngest lives it so we each it a lot. Despicable me is another favourite.

Old school favourites are The Aristocats and Lady and the Tramp.

I only own The Simpsons movie, which I got for a magazine subscription or something. I'm not a massive fan, nor a hater (Shrek excepted). I don't really have a favourite.

Despicable Me is brilliant, I got that for Christmas! I also really like both Cars films, which is just as well as my son loves them too, and pretty much all the Pixar stuff, including the shorts. I also really like the Ice Age films.

The Lion King, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Cat Returns (although the plot is odd), Princess Mononoke, Happy Feet. Tintin's animation was very pretty too.

The Little Mermaid is up there for me.

We just watched Brave which is really good.

I prefer animated films to horror films ;)

Mr B and I love Coraline. Very creepy. In CGI terms I like Cars and Happy Feet (though Giles is terrified of the baby penguins!), Finding Nemo was great, Monsters Inc is a good one. The Toy Storys, obviously. Shreks. Robots is another good 'un.

In animation terms I'm a big Ghibli fan, especially My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. Ponyo was their best recent one. I also adore Robin Hood, Lady and the Tramp, The Aristocats, The Lion King, Hercules and Aladdin. My favourite Disney film has to be Beauty and the Beast, though.

I will always love the original Land Before Time. It makes me cry buckets these days.
