They've put Dawson's Creek on Netflix. I'm watching the pilot. It's SO ludicrous but very nostalgic

Ah, I meant to ask, do you need to have a vague understanding of chess for that? I don't even know what all the pieces are called.

My lack of knowledge of poker meant that I was lost during all the tense scenes in Casino Royale too.

Do you need to know about/not hate* chess to enjoy the Queen's Gambit? Do you need even a basic level of knowledge?

*I don't actually hate it, I have just never played the boys played it a lot (reluctantly) during lockdown so it has horrible connotations for me!

I watched a distressing film on Netflix last night - Shepherds and Butchers starring Steve Coogan. It made a good point about the death penalty being brutalising, but was so horrible to watch. I don't recommend it.

Can anyone recommend a good courtroom drama, please? Series or film.

Oh, I missed a page. I enjoyed the Queen's Gambit, and I don't play chess. It's not necessary to understand it at all, although it might add a dimension if you can follow the moves during the matches.

You don't need to know anything about chess to enjoy The Queen's Gambit. I'd say the first episode or two might make you think you do, so stick with it as it improves after that. I love it.

I know nothing about chess (I do remember the felt stuff on the bottom of the chess pieces, and that the knight felt nice to chew ) and I am loving it (only watched two episodes so far) and like Beatrix it makes me want to play. Though I haven't yet found an app that is suitable for someone as backwards as me.

It is! Well worth watching if you haven't seen it. I was a bit put off by the title, for some reason, but I really enjoyed it.

Trial of Chicago Seven was ace, especially if you like Aaron Sorkin. SBC is brilliant.
