She is an excellent actress. And so well dressed.
Anyway, it was a salutary lesson in not getting lipliner tattooed on. Inevitably, it got me caught up in a Wikipedia loop, her second husband also went to jail. And there's a podcast about her interview with Steve - Jon Ronson's Things Fell Apart.

Such a great opening to the film!

Re: Film 2022
We watched Death on the Nile on Disney+ last night, and thought it was boring. Too dark, too CGI’d, and almost everyone seemed completely miscast (pretty much everyone was putting on a foreign accent and it showed). Absolutely not a patch on the Ustinov or Suchet versions.
(I was also irrationally annoyed by the oh-so-pretty Karnak paddle steamer they were travelling on with floor to ceiling double storey glass everywhere. There’s a reason why that’s not how people built things in hot countries before aircon -it would have been like travelling around in a greenhouse. Still, it meant we got lots of arty shots of people viewed through rippling glass…. )

Have they changed the plot a bit as well, Liv? I get most annoyed when they tinker and have to stop watching.

The basics are the same, but some of the characters involved have been changed.

We watched Coda last night and I thought it was good, but quite cheesy and predictable - it really felt like an early 90s coming of age movie. I think A would really enjoy it though. For a movie dealing with deafness I thought Sound of Metal was much better and more powerful.

I thought Sound of Metal was a fabulous movie. Really beautifully acted. Riz Ahmed is brilliant.

I went to see The Worst Person in the World last night on a bit of a whim and really enjoyed it - it's a dark, Norwegian comedy and was completely compelling. Really well acted as well.

I watched the Spielberg remake of West Side Story yesterday. It was nice but nothing tops the original.

We watched a new Mark Rylance film last night called The Outfit. I will inevitably like anything he is in, but it was actually a good neat little story. Set in 1950s Chicago, but everything happens in 3 rooms so the period was set by the styling (which was great). Enough twists to keep it interesting til the end. Recommend.

We went to see The Secrets of Dumbledore which was good I guess but like Ella said a couple of parts were genuinely distressing. I wouldn't watch it again.

I know I’m a wuss about animals, but I thought those bits were too much. Genuinely distressing. Glad I’m not the only one.

It blows my mind how wrong they get those FB movies. 1 was simply boring. 2 I've not seen but heard managed to be even more boring and darker and more miserable. Now 3 has animal abuse? Who are they intended for? Terrified children?

I really enjoyed the first one and have watched it a few times. The second wasn't as good and I think I found the plot confusing. This one was good in lots of ways but a couple of parts spoiled the experience for me.

I saw this and absolutely loved it. Apparently it's the third in a very loose trilogy (as in not sequels but broad themes) and I really want to see the others now.Flora Poste wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 10:00 am I went to see The Worst Person in the World last night on a bit of a whim and really enjoyed it - it's a dark, Norwegian comedy and was completely compelling. Re: Film 2022
A little bit after it was released in UK cinemas, my bestie and I went to see Belfast last night and we both loved it. The wee boy was so good in it and I suspect I was the only Brit in the cinema as I was the only one that laughed at some of the jokes- the Titty Titty Bang Bang was brilliant (and then the family all ducking in their seats as the car took off)
My friend was very grateful for the German subtitles as she found it hard to understand some of the accents. She is now enthusiastic to see more films in original version with me.

I’ve been to see a couple of kids movies on account of it being school holidays - Bad Guys (pretty enjoyable) and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (really good).
Have also watched the new Death on the Nile which I thought was pretty disappointing. I didn’t think much of Branagh as Poirot.
