We enjoyed that. It was a recommendation from a lady in our book club. She said it was so successful here that they were planning to release it internationally. Not sure how that will go. American audiences needed crib sheets for The Full Monty! But, yeah.

I can recommend The Gentlemen, which we watched last night. Matthew McConaughy seldom disappoints and Hugh Grant was better than I expected, as an utterly repulsive Cockney reporter.

I’ve just watched The Lost Daughter. It was very strange but quite mesmerising. Very little dialogue.

The most distracting thing was when I realised that the actor who plays the protagonist as a young woman looks REALLY like Eddie Redmayne . I couldn’t un-see it.

The 2019 version of Little Women. The beginning of the film is a bit weird and the jumping back and forth in time would probably confuse someone who wasn’t familiar with the book/ previous adaptations but it’s a lovely film. Timothee Chalomet is a great Laurie and Florence Pugh plays Amy perfectly.

I have such a massive crush on Florence Pugh. She is astonishingly good. Have you seen Lady Macbeth?

I love her too. She was the best thing in Black Widow.

Easily. And she’s brilliant in Fighting With My Family.

I meant to add, I’ve seen adaptations that have different actresses playing young and older Amy, she played both and was brilliant, you could easily tell the difference.

Belfast was excellent. :love2: Really well done, and sort of oddly gentle and lovely for the subject matter. All of the cast were brilliant. Though I spent the whole film thinking 'oh, the Da is quite and attractive chap.' Having recently spent all of The Tourist thinking 'well, that's quite an attractive chap.' It's only when I got home and looked at imdb I was like 'oh! same chap.' The beard/no beard thing confused me. :))

Jamie Dornan? He is fairly well known for being quite attractive.

I had remained sadly unaware of Jamie Dornan as a concept until The Tourist. I clearly haven't got my finger on the pulse of the current attractive chap market. :))

With a beard. Not without a beard. Also, one tries to overlook the fact that he played the lead in 50 Shades, as it takes the shine off somewhat.

I first noticed him in The Fall where he was a shamefully attractive serial killer.

I have added The Fall to our watchlist and will innocently tell R someone recommended it, not "it's got that quite attractive chap in it." :))

It's quite gruesome. Gillian Anderson is amazing in it though.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye. I did not really know the story but was amazed (how was that broadcast by satellite all those years ago). Fantastic performances from Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield in the main roles. Not sure if she was just naive or really devout - she certainly seemed to get them out of some scrapes until the end when it was too late

My Mum seems to have discovered Jamie Dornan. She went from The Tourist to Belfast and, having now figured out how to work iplayer, is currently bingeing The Fall.

Jamie Dornan is totally worth watching in Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar also. He’s definitely got range

I also discovered Jamie Dornan in The Fall and had that conflicting “oh, he’s really hot, but I can’t think that cos he’s a crazy serial stalker/killer” feeling.

I couldn’t watch more than a couple of episodes of The Fall. It was too rapey.

I love Jessica Chastain though. Scenes From A Marriage (not a film, but the 2021 short series) is such a wrench to watch. Maybe not a wrench? It’s very hard-going.

I had to give up on the Fall too, I hated how much violence against women there was, and it gave me bad dreams.
Christ on a bendy bus son, don't be such a fucking faff arse
