I was watching their choice of fillings from behind my hands. FISH bao? Chicken and chorizo (great!) with harissa AND sriracha? This generation has lost their way. I can't even remember what flavours they put with their fish as it made no sense.

EXACTLY THIS! I then had an argument with Mr D as he swore he hadn't had a bao bun in his life.

I’m obviously massively out of touch with the real world, but seriously, do people REALLY pay more that a £ or 2 for what is effectively a little bit of dough and not much filling??? I know I sure as hell wouldn’t!

They were gouging folk with that pricing. I kept shouting at the telly 'there's been a pandemic and cost of living crisis'.

An extra pound for sauce and sprinkles. :ella:

When the boys were selling to the client I thought that 70 buns were £9 in total. I thought it was cheap but then thought that nobody would pay £9 for one!

I was also aghast at the prices and completely agree about the flavours. They were all so clueless.

Those green ones looked unbelievably shit and nothing like dinosaurs. Baffling.

The only way I would consider paying £9 for a bao was if it came with a weighty reputation for astounding brilliance. No way from a random market trader I'd never heard of with a fish head strapped round their waist. I also struggle to believe that an actual Chinese person running a (presumably) Chinese restaurant bought bizarre fusion bao untasted off some randos from the street when surely he must know specialist suppliers who churn out decent stuff at a fraction of the price and don't take them on some sort of Spanish/Moroccan/Thai pathway.

I've got emergency Itsu duck bao in the freezer that cost four quid for 6 and, while nothing special, is undoubtedly loads better than that nonsense.

ETA: At Bao the restaurant (s), they're £6. That's for something well known/decent rep, carrying a restaurant overhead mark up.

The only time I ever encounter bao buns is on the ferry. They only appeared on the menu within the last few months and are quite a nice veggie option. But that's about it. I had no idea they were such a. Thing.

I thought Cube would really enjoy this so we’ve started catching up on iplayer. I’ve not seen it in year and I’ve only just realised we’re watching series 16 not 17.

Easily done. I made the same mistake, looking for episode 1 of the new series on iPlayer.

Rhyming ball with school is - different!

Focus groups with tiny children is always going to be a disaster.

Also. Why do they always do the focus groups after or in parallel with the concept design? I know they are pressed for time, but they find out that the ideas are rubbish when it's too late to alter them.

This pitch is dire.

The 'down in the jungle where nobody knows' line reminds me of the 2 Ronnies who would have coupled it with 'there stood a young lady without any clothes'. And 'My balls in the tree' is asking for trouble.

Did they have to base it around diversity or did both groups choose that as a theme coincidentally?

I don't know - I missed the first couple of minutes.

Giving them no hands or feet is taking the brief too far, though, whatever it was

That was unsurprising.

Treasure hunt next week - I love it because they are usually all so bloody thick.

I think they all "automatically" went diversity I do understand, but 2-4 year olds? Should it just not be fun - not sure they are aware or need to learn a lesson on all/any differences in society and ruminate/appreciate the lesson.

I’m so bloody sick of diversity and inclusivity being forced in everywhere. What’s wrong with just making a lovely little cartoon that’s fun? I’m not a parent but I doubt 2-4 yr olds give much of a shit about D&I.

I think its a positive thing to do, it's never too early for children to be exposed to different groups and cultures, and there are some excellent examples of this on platforms like CBeebies. It's also really important for children from under represented groups to see themselves in tv programnes. The problem was that the candidates just shoe horned it in, as one of the experts said, it wasn't fun or enjoyable.
