Yes! I was just thinking this earlier.

I’ve just finished a second read of Iron Flame (the second in the Fourth Wing series) and loved it more than the first time. So excited for the third coming out on Wednesday :weewee:

I'm reading The Dog of The North and really enjoying it. Although the description of baby rats nesting in a bedside table drawer has freaked me out a bit!

A friend has lent me Small Country by Gaël Faye, and I promised to give it back to her tomorrow so I'm galloping through that this afternoon. I was worried there would be too much horror of the Rwandan genocide but so far so good.

My second son has written a book and published it on Amazon KDP so obviously I have to read it, but I hate otherworld fantasy so I'm finding it heavy going. And I don't know how to tell him about the errors in it.

I would leave well alone Rosy I'm sure there'll be plenty of others that will point out inaccuracies.

Mini writes and has done so since she was in her teens. She's now thinking of writing again and I don't think I could be the one to review any output.

I think you are right, Duo. He knows it's not a genre I enjoy so probably won't ask me too much about it.

I spoke too soon. That was a challenging, though incredibly powerful, read.

I've just finished a year of reading books on revolutionary thought in 20th Century literature for a podcast course, so I'm up for something a bit lighter!
I've been saving the first two so that I can read them in a binge when the third came out.
I've just started Iron Flame.

If you liked The Hunger Games, I imagine you'll enjoy the Fourth Wing series.

I finished Feeding the Monster last night. It was really interesting and spoilered all the horror films, but that was OK because I don’t plan to watch any. Even if I did, I hate surprises. I really liked the author’s writing style.

I'm going to see if I can get that from the library. It sounds right up my street!

I've got Cher's memoir but it's on hold as I'm rereading all my Phil Rickman books. It's such a comfort.

I loved Piranesi.
Me too.

I've just finished Iron Flame and am having a brief pause whilst I decide how I want to buy Onyx Storm - I got the first two from the library but they haven't got Onyx Storm in yet (gits!). I will want to buy and re-read before the fourth one comes out and I like to have them all in the same format.

Plus I've lost the last 10 days or so to reading the first two, so I really need to get other things done!

I also like the sound of Feeding the Monster. I bet I'd have been right on that when I was writing my Gothic Lit dissertation. It had Freddy Krueger in it and everything. :))

I was ill at the start of January and comfort read several Mary Wesleys. :love2: I forgot how much I could just sink happily into 1940s upper middle class England. I have now started Evie Wyld's The Echoes, which got nominated for *stuff* (possibly the Booker?) last year and I am thoroughly enjoying it so far, despite being initially wary as part of it is narrated by a ghost. She is very perceptive about the ordinary lives of couples (without being dull).

You would love it Bats. There loads on Freddy in it too.

I’ve got Orbital with me to read next.

Feeding the Monster intrigues me, too. I don't watch a lot of horror but love reading or watching about how things are done and the cultural history around these things. The Black Guy Dies First about black horror cinema is an interesting read.

I gave up on The Wren, The Wren. Some* of the book club raved about it, but I don’t get on with trauma/abuse when reading for enjoyment.

*The English teachers/graduates; everyone else was unimpressed. It was the former group’s 8s and 9s that pushed the average above 4/10.

I’m now reading Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, which I'm finding quite dull.

Ha - I wasn't a fan of The Wren, The Wren either. My writer friend raved about it though.

I think that's the book which upset me so much I still feel sick thinking about it. Bloody thing.

I'm half way through The Lacuna for book club. I was reluctant to start it as I don't always get on with Barbara Kingsolver these days but I am loving it.
