I finished Trespass by Louise Kennedy today, it's about Northern Ireland in the 1970s. A Catholic woman has an affair with an older Protestant man. I really enjoyed it, although it was quite sad too.

I downloaded the first 3 Slough House books as they were on offer for 99p each so I think I'll try them next.

I just did Trespass for Book Club. Very good and a lot of the references really brought me back to the 80's and growing up hearing a lot about the Troubles in the South.

R has been reading the Slow Horses books and recommends. Though he does sometimes seem to read some absolute tripe, so I'm not sure how viable a recommendation that is. :))

I am getting a bit bogged down in Bess of Hardwick, due to there being a cast of thousands, all of whom are called Edward, Elizabeth, Frances, Francis or Jane. :)) I shall persevere a bit longer - I am already on husband 4 - and see if it picks up. I've made a note of Trespass as well, that sounds good, thanks, Sal.

I’ve finished The Bluest Eye today. I could see the beauty in it and the writing, but I just hate abuse in books now so much.

I finished Rodham today and felt so wistful at the end. I'd like to try American Wife soon.

Now I'm on to Big Brother. I hate Lionel Shriver as a person but it's from the library, so I can give it right back.

Oh yes, Romantic Comedy or something? I saw it when I went to see Ian Dunt speak about his latest book at Waterstones but I didn't have time to buy it. Maybe I'll just work my way through her entire back catalogue.

I read quite a chunk of Slow Horses while hanging about the hospital yesterday. I like it although I think I'd find it a bit confusing if I hadn't seen the TV programme.

The new Strike book comes out the day we go to Lisbon in September (26th) so I'll pre order that to read whole away!

I'm reading Tunnel 29 now, which is absolutely fascinating, about a man who dug a tunnel under the Berlin Wall.

Everyday Sexism - Laura Bates. Don't read this if you don't want to be angry. Men! Just take a fucking day off please.
On Savage Shores - Caroline Dodds Pennock. Talks about indigenous Americans discovering Europe, long before we discovered them. Really interesting.
That Old Country Music - Kevin Barry. This author was recommended by an Irish colleague, beautiful writing style but the content wasn't my thing. It's a collection of short stories about rural Ireland
Wuthering Heights - E Bronte. Couldn't have cared less about any of the characters, wanted to pan Cathy's face in.
20/20 - Carl Goodman - freebie thriller on Audibles, good page-turner but gory and all about eyes.
Lost at Sea - The Jon Ronson Mysteries. Interesting stories but could've spent more time on each one
The Debutant - Jon Ronson. Story of a Tulsa deb who turned white supremacist and undercover informant.
The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels - Janice Hallett. Loved this loads of twists if you can cope with the epistolary format.

It's a true story, told by a journalist who interviewed the guy who did the digging and then has told it from a third-person perspective. So it reads like a story (Joachim did this, blablabla). I've made a right meal of answering your question, haven't I?

I've just finished Hags: The demonisation of middle-aged women by Victoria Smith and your comment equally applies. I thought it was good, but not as well written as Invisible Women. Still, she made some very valid points.

Just finished Exiles and I loved it so much! Jane Harper is so good at making the characters seem like old friends. Now, as I am on holiday, I have started People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry.
