I'd wondered if you'd gotten me mixed up with someone else.

I haven't read any scottish detective novels recently.

A friend lent me “This Is Not A Pity Memoir” by Abi Morgan and it was incredibly moving. I’d heard about it on the Women’s Prize podcast and had put it on my TBR list then.

I read Babel which was a present from my pals and I really enjoyed it, despite not being a fantasy fan usually.

Now I'm on Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld and I'm really enjoying it - it's so readable and I have no idea where it's going.

I really liked that, Lazz although I read it years ago.

I'm nearly finished Lessons, I've enjoyed it more than I expected but it is still a bit wanky.

My detective novel is set in Southampton, so quite a way from Scotland! It is very good though.

I have a feeling my e-reader is dying. Every night when I open it to read in bed, it tells me it needs to be charged. Then I charge it all night and the next day it happens all over again.

I've never managed anything by Ian McEwan but I don't know why. I tried Atonement and On Chesil Beach and I just couldn't do it.

Whereas I really do plan to read Curtis' entire oeuvre. :))

Abi Morgan is really inspiring. I don’t know how she coped.

I’ve just finished One True Loves now by TJR. It was a bit corny, and reminded me of the teen romances I used to read from the library when I was 14/15, so I kind of loved it.

I've just finished Yellowface which was one of those books I really enjoyed at the time and raced through, but was quite stressful to read and looking back there are quite a few things I'd pick apart. I liked her writing though, so fancy Babel.

I'd like to read Yellowface!

Babel isn't perfect - particularly some of the dialogue and her obsession with footnotes, which was annoying on the Kindle - but it was really engrossing and I couldn't wait to keep reading it whenever I stopped.

I finished Lessons this morning. I'm going to read Demon Copperhead next, I think.

I’m racing through more Deborah Levy. She’s just amazing.

Since that I’ve read a book by one of my sister’s PhD supervisors and I didn’t love it. I daren’t say more. :look: The premise was a bit ridiculous.

My reading stack is empty right now! I have two thrillers on the way from the library though.

I just finished Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward, who wrote Last House On Needless Street. It was (almost) equally strange with its twisty, turny plot. She has a very interesting way of looking at things.

I read DC on hols - it really was excellent. I also enjoyed the Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’farell.

I'm about half way through it, it's so good. It’s pretty bleak at times but he's such a brilliant character!

The factual events behind this story are interesting but the fictional story was just ok. And one plot point was so unbelievable, I went moaning about it to my family.

I tried one of them - I think it was Swimming Lessons - and the concept was a bit daft so I didn't get that far and that kind of put me off the rest. I've just looked her back up again, though, and I might try Bitter Orange, you've reminded me of how much I enjoyed the one I did read.
Having broken up An Impossible Return to reread Unsettled Ground for book club, I then read Swimming Lessons, which also wasn’t perfect, but I do enjoy her writing style. I’m going to start on Bitter Orange next.

Most recently, I read this one but didn’t find it that compelling. It did make me read up on Quarriers village though.
