I've just finished Seven Days by Alex Lake. I loved it.

I finished The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry. It was very disturbing but definitely a page turner. The (lack of) ending was disappointing. I find it hard to imagine what makes a person write such books but then I read it, I suppose, although I didn’t realise how dark it would be.

Not a book for Ella, that’s for sure!

Next I’m going to read Wonder.

I read that a while ago, Cerise, but I don't remember it too well. I think I felt a bit similarly but once I started had to read on! I gave it three stars so must have quite liked it.

Is there animal cruelty in it?

I've finished Commonwealth now. It was absolutely amazing.

Then I read State of Wonder by the same author, and it was really good but not as good. Utterly brutal ending though.

Next up is We Used To Be Friends which I ordered months ago and had totally forgotten about.

I bought Melmoth by Sarah Perry on a complete whim. I'm hoping for gothic scares.

I finished the last Patricia Wentworth and the first Witcher book. I'm now trying to finish a ghost story I started last year, Fire Devil by JL Bryan as I am currently 'tidying up' all the half read books.

I enjoyed this very much. I love Sarah Perry and saw her at the Lit Fest a year or so ago (whereupon I bought Melmoth!).

I’ve got How Not To Diet on the go (follow up to How Not to Die) and am listening to a Liane Moriarty on the drive - The Last Anniversary.

Yes. You’re not missing anything by not reading it. There are definitely plenty of better books to spend your time on.

Recent reads here:

Where the Crawdads Sing (Delia Owens) - I really loved this, it was gentle but gripping and I really liked the marsh/ nature setting.
Stardust (Neil Gaiman) - I've never read a Neil Gaiman before (no idea why!) and I liked this - it was the right mix of faerie whimsy and darkness for me.
Olive Kitteridge (Elizabeth Strout) - really enjoyed this, I'm getting more into short stories these days (possibly short attention span) but I like ones that have linking elements.
The Ruby in the Smoke (Philip Pullman) - I downloaded this for A, but read it myself as I fancied something quick and really enjoyed it.

Where the Crawdads Sing is so good, isn’t it?

Oh, I loved Where the Crawdads Sing too! It was just lovely. Another of my standout books lately has been Beartown by Fredrik Backman. Just so incredibly moving. And one of the very few books that my sister, dad and I all loved.

I’ve read the sample of Beartown but wasn’t sure. Sounds as though it’s worth sticking with.
