Is it weird reading the translation? I read a few English books in French years ago and it's quite interesting thinking about what the original text must have been and how much they adapt beyond simple translations.
The translation is pretty good, I think. There's a couple of bits where it sounds a bit weird but that's par for the course. It's a good read anyway, it reminded me a bit of L'Etranger.

Now I'm on The Mercies.

Did I say I was reading Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers for bookclub? I quite enjoyed it but the ending ticked me off. I have Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng for next month.

The ending shook me up, Teabs. But I loved that book. And I loved Little Fires Everywhere, you're in for a treat.

They’re really good Book Club choices, so much to talk about.

As ever I’m miles behind everyone else because I try and pick up charity shop books rather than buy new, but I’ve just finished where the crawdads sing and really loved it.

It was a perfect heatwave book, and I was totally immersed in the characters and story.

Small pleasures does sound good, I’m going to try that soon.

I’ve just finished The Guilty Feminist, having never listened to the podcast. I enjoyed it a lot & learned stuff and don’t feel too guilty.

Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty. I really enjoyed it, I like the Aussie humour in it and the way she gives angles on the story in the style of Strictly Ballroom or Muriel’s Wedding, and how her mysteries always hint at being truly dark, but often aren’t as dark as your imagination.

I've been unable to resist Malibu Rising and read 150 pages yesterday. Must tear myself away today.

I finished Malibu Rising and absolutely loved it.

I also read April in Spain by John Banville, which I enjoyed a lot.

I'm now reading The Maidens by Alex Michaellides, which is a real page-turner and good so far.

I finished Dirt Town last night, I liked it, it wasn't as good as Jane Harpers stuff but the style was similar.

Next is Ginger and Me by Evissa Soave. She is a friend of a friend, and we went to her book launch last week. I got a copy of the book with my ticket, and it seems a bit like Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

I've totally failed on this. Hopefully I'll finish it after the England match.

My sister is struggling to get into which really annoyed me as I loved it so much. :))

I finished Marian Keyes Grown Ups which was a nice easy read. I’m now on All Girls which is set in a New England boarding school. I’m only a chapter so far.

I’ve finished That Summer (quite enjoyed it and the ref to Big Summer). Then today I’ve read The Cliff House, the new Brookmyre. Although Goodreads has called it “She Knows”. Anyway, that was brilliant and I didn’t put it down.
