This is on my library reservation list!

I read The Ice Twins by S K Tremayne a couple of years ago and thought it appalling. I should have warned you, Wendle!

I am on The Roses of No Man's Land about nurses & doctors in WW1.

I have been reading a book about the Lakes and the Romantic poets and discovered I've been Coleridge mixed up with Byron for years. And that Dorothy Wordsworth was 'highly strung.' Though I wonder if she was or if she just got on men's nerves.

It's Rocks and Rain, Reason and Romance: The Lake District - landscape, people, art and achievements by David Howe, Lily. There's three or four chapters on the Romantic poets, a nice chunk of Harriet Martineau and one on Beatrix Potter and a sideways, polite look at Ruskin. And a bit of geology, weather and sheep.

Thanks for the link, I'll pop it on my listening list. :))

I finished The Storyteller of Casablanca. It was ok. I found the writing style annoying at times but enjoyed (most of) the story.

1979 by Val McDermid. Not one of her best IMHO, and I felt one of the relationships was a bit shoehorned in.

I liked this a lot.

I'm reading American Dirt, I've just started it though.

I’m most of the way through The Cows by Dawn Porter. It’s ok.

I finally finished How to Kill Your Family. Not a bad story but far too much description (think someone has already mentioned this on the thread) with really odd chapter lengths ranging from 10 to 45mins. This made planning my nightly reading difficult.
I have now started on Unsuitable Men by Pippa Wright which I hope will be a light read.

I finished How to Kill Your Family as well - it was fine, but I agree about too much description, plus it took me ages to get into it. There were bits that were really good, but a lot of it was padding and I found the last couple of chapters and how she wrapped it up really dull.

I'm reading Ex Libris now by Anne Fadiman which is really good and is a set of (short) essays about bibliophilia. I need to pick the Bob Mortimer autobiography up from the library as well, and I've got The Wolf's Den to pick up as well which looks good.

I finished Three Women yesterday and have to say that I didn't understand the hype. It was interesting, ultimately depressing (I thought) but certainly not something I'm ever going to re-read.

Case Histories up next for me, I can't believe I haven't ever read this series.

I hated Three Women. It was just sad for me.

I hear ya, Pip. Maggie's story made me furious.

Yes, the Jackson Brodie ones, they've completely passed me by, but I've picked up the first three in a charity shop and I intend to enjoy 'em. :))

They are so good! Once you've read them, the TV series is worth a watch, Jason Issacs is great

I didn't finish this. I keep getting Dawn Porter and Gail Porter mixed up and thought Gail Porter had married Chris O'Dowd and called herself Dawn O'Porter for some bizarre reason. :tangent:

Three Women did nothing for me either.

I have just read The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella in 2 sittings & it was enjoyable fluff. Her female characters are all the same though; ditsy idiots for most of the book who then remember they can be calm & rational by the end. Her style of writing does draw you in though :))

The Jackson Brodie books are excellent. After being so keen to read it that I pre-ordered it when it was first released, I am finally reading Transcription by Kate Atkinson.
