I have started this year as I ended it, with a PG Wodehouse. I feel the need for a little lightness.

I'm copying everyone else and reading The School for Good Mothers.

Yesterday, I finished Mr Nobody, it started out intriguing and ended up being rather ridiculous, but I enjoyed it. The main characters are a neuropsychiatrist and a mystery patient who may have dissociative fugue.

I finished Tarnished. It was a good read. I have now started Hold by Michael Donkor:
Moving between Ghana and London, Hold is an intimate, powerful coming-of-age novel. It’s a story of friendship and family, shame and forgiveness; of learning what we should cling to, and when we need to let go.

I am really enjoying this.

I loved Life After Life. I read it on holiday in Majorca and my mum and my MIL wouldn't leave me in peace to read. I read the last couple of chapters stood with my feet in the sea on a sunny beach, just to get some quiet.

I've just finished Slow Fire Burning, by Paula Hawkins. Was a quickish read, so held the attention. But not nearly as good as The Girl on the Train. I've got Lianne Moriarty's Nine Perfect Strangers in my overnight bag, for the ferry.

I've decided to alternate reading absolute dogshit with actual good books this year. I might start with the School for Good Mothers if that's what everyone is reading.

I've just finished Cover Her Face, the first of the Adam Dalgleish novels which, for some reason, I've never read before.

The early Dalgleish novels are great - that’s a good discovery!

I've massively upped my reading challenge for this year and I'm trying to read more classics and black authors.

Oliver Twist - loved this and it was genuinely thrilling in parts
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie - struggled with this as I didn't care for the writing or the characters.

I just finished Again, Rachel. I loved it as I love all Marian Keyes books. I am easily influenced so shall purchase School for Good Mothers next.
