Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
Lovely! So many places have carpet in bathrooms. Why? We saw a dip dye pink bathroom suite. I have no idea how to show you all without giving away my possible new address.

That almost makes my current ensuite look nice by comparison.

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
My friend bought a house with a carpetted bath panel. They had also wallpapered with vinyl, tile print wallpaper over all the walls, the ceiling and the back of the door.
Needless to say, it was a fixer upper :))

Our old house had a pale pink bathroom suite, and the bath panel was black quilted vinyl - like a Chanel handbag. The height of mid-60s style, I guess?

That sounds quite sweet, Liv. The sort of thing I'd think 'this should probably be saved as an example of its time' before ripping it out and putting in something new :))

The carpeted bath panel!
I used to live in a flat with a dark pink marbled-effect bathroom suite. It looked like someone had fashioned it out of raw meat, Lady Gaga style.

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
I wonder if it's a generational thing? My mother's house has carpet in the bathrooms. I wouldn't choose it myself (we don't have any fitted carpet at all), but the house is bright and well-ventilated and I don't find it odd. On the other hand, R's mum had a carpeted bathroom (with carpeted bath panel) and a carpeted loo and a damp and musty smell pervaded the whole of upstairs. Thank god she had a water leak from the tank in the roof and the insurance paid for the bathroom carpet to be replaced with vinyl.

My ILs (FIL and SIL) both have carpeted kitchens and bathrooms, my mum doesn't have either so I think it's more what you're used to than generational.

Carpeted kitchen?! So impractical, surely?

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
We used to have carpet tiles in the kitchen and bathroom in the 80's (the 80s). It must have been really impactical but China did tend to bounce more, when dropped, so there was a slight positive to it.
Carpet is a ridiculous floor covering anywhere, when you really think about it

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
Yes, we had carpet tiles in the kitchen in the 80s and 90s. To be fair if you spilled anything you could just take the tile up and wash it. Spills didn't tend to pool across the entire floor in the way they do on other non-absorbent floors. Not that I'm advocating it, mind you, but I can sort of see why carpet tiles may not have seemed idiotic.
Having them in a bathroom which is used by children or men is just disgusting, though.

That's amazing! Good price too.
His persistence was rewarded with noticeably stronger chest muscles and extra living space.
