Netflix human recommendations

Post by Kenickie »

As their 'because you watched' algorithms seem a bit dodgy, and I've kind of run out of things to watch, I thought it would be good to have a new thread where we can share our opinions.

I don't have anything else like Amazon or Sky so if you'd like to discuss those please start a different thread. :ballet:

Things I've enjoyed
Kimmy Schmidt
Master of None
Love
The Good Wife
White Collar
Narcos
Breaking Bad (but not as much as everyone else)
House
Orange is the New Black
Line of Duty
Black Mirror
Luther
Happy Valley
The Fall
Fargo
Stewart Lee
The Killing
The Trip
Making a Murderer
The Detectorists
The Get Down

Things I liked for a bit but lost interest
Person of Interest
Lie to Me
Homeland
Gilmore Girls
Community

Things I tried and couldn't get on with
Bloodlines
Grace and Frankie
PLL
Arrested Development
Prison Break
Top of the Lake
Bojack Horseman
Jessica Jones/ Luke Cage etc
Brooklyn 99
Better Call Saul
Orphan Black

What have you liked? I've just started Lovesick, a British comedy, which is OK but isn't grabbing me too much. If it helps, I don't like costume dramas or sci-fi.

I like a lot of your favourites, and also liked Lovesick.

I would really, really recommend Crazy Ex Girlfriend, which is not at all what it seems like it would be - it's more about subverting rom com tropes in a ridiculous, hilarious way. It has musical numbers but don't let that put you off as it is so funny, smart and well observed.

Not including things on your list I enjoyed:

The Last Kingdom (I'd seen it on the bbc)
iZombie
San Carlita Diet
Daredevil

I plough through the documentaries too.

I've tried Dirk Gently and Van Helsing lately and couldn't get passed the first episode

Thanks, I think the musical numbers thing is what's put me off but I'll give it a whirl!

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is brilliant and the new series of Love begins next week, the 10th I think.

I loved the first series but have given up on the second series which is atrocious. Such a shame as it started so well.

I'm still on series 1 of Crazy Ex Girlfriend but I'm sure you'd love the JAP rap battle.

Oooh. Good thread, Ken. I like your categories. I may add/amend mine when I read everyone elses and remember what I have watched  :fish:

Things I've enjoyed
Orange is the New Black
Narcos
Black Mirror
Power
Santa Clarita Diet
Making a Murderer
90210 :shame:
The Client List
Cuckoo
Fargo

Things I liked for a bit but lost interest
Kimmy Schmidt (only bothered with a couple of episodes of S2)
Crazy Ex-Girlfirend (S1 was brill, S2 got stupid)
Orphan Black (Loved first couple of series, then got boring)

Things I tried and couldn't get on with
Breaking Bad (I did nearly 3 series but it just seemed a bit slow and boring)

I enjoyed Lucifer and The Crown but I'm not sure if that is on Amazon or not.

I tried the Santa Clarita diet but didn't apply the three date rule so I may watch another to see if it grabs.

Things I've enjoyed
Kimmy Schmidt
How to Get Away With Murder
House of Cards
Crazy Ex Girlfriend
Jessica Jones
Hinterland
The first few episodes of Suits (MrMcLip streaked ahead and he's now on series 6 and I can't face catching up so I'm just jumping back in)
Vexed (saw these on proper TV but have enjoyed a second viewing)

Things I liked for a bit but lost interest
Daredevil (may go back to it)
Bloodline (watched series 1, don't think I can face 2, it's so slow moving)
Spotless (MrMcLip wasn't bothered, I still might be)

Things I tried and couldn't get on with
Narcos

Things I want to watch
Don't Trust the Bitch...

Things I watched all of but didn't enrich my life to a huge extent
Stranger Things

The Detectorists is vastly underrated!

Not Netflix, but All 4, if you liked The Killing:

Blue Eyes
Thicker Than Water
Dicte - Crime Reporter
Case
Acquitted
The Bridge
