I love Mowgli, I've been to the one in Manchester. We couldn't decide either so had a vegetarian and a meat tiffin box between us all. It was great.

Mowgli looks like so much fun. Alas, no branches nearby!

Two new (to me, I mean) places this week.

First, at long last, The Palomar. https://thepalomar.co.uk/ We had no reservations and walked in to get a seat up at the kitchen bar and it was really lovely, lively service that didn't feel forced or uncomfortable. Loved the kubaneh bread, the sea bream/octopus, the scallops and the pappardelle. Unmoved by the pork belly that was cooked perfectly but just bland.

Then last night the very recently re-opened Dirty South, local to me. http://dirtysouth.co.uk/ They are having a series of residencies of well reputed street food companies doing the food, at the moment it is Other Side Fried (fried chicken burgers). I had a burger with smoked honey butter fried chicken, bacon/lettuce/pickles and it was bloody marvellous. Also, good beer and the nice man made me sample all the wines before choosing one, which was excellent because the house wine was the nicest and I'd never have picked it because the description sounded awful. It was so quiet though. It only opened last week so I suppose it just takes time for word to get round, but they're doing everything right (except the smug dinner party jazz funk music).

I could eat happily at either of those. DIrty South looks very tempting though. There's so much competition for that kind of a market though, I do wonder how they can all keep going?!

I ate here http://whitehorsehambrook.com/ a couple of weekends ago, I forgot to post. Its a newly refurbished/relaunched pub. The food was nice, I had a special which was 'pressed lamb' which looked like the shape of fillet of beef but flaked apart like it was slow cooked. It was delicious, anyway.

Palomar! You lucky thing, it's still on my hitlist. Not surprised the pork belly didn't wow you though, it's hardly traditional middle eastern fare :))

We went to Temper at the weekend with Ms & Mr Cos and whilst the service was a little patchy, the food (basically, grilled meats over the open fires in the centre of the restaurant, and don't spare the fats) was excellent if dirty as hell. B had about four servings of the roast goat (apologies :)) ).

I loved Temper. The beef fat tacos!

True, about the pork. :)) It was with carrot and celeriac and apricot. We thought it sounded dull, I'm not sure why we picked it.

For Dirty South, there's not much else like it around the area. There's a great street food market in the summer, and a good proper restaurant, but a dearth of pubs. And new flats going up every day, so they should have a decent catchment and not too much competition.

That lamb sounds interesting.

I accidentally ate Derek's beef fat tacos and we had to order more. They were amazing. I would like to try temper in the city as their curry offerings look really good.

Has nobody tried anywhere new recently?

I keep on meaning to post that I finally went to Manjus last week, a vegetarian / vegan Indian place near the station and it was great. Really sweet service, and although it's quite new they clearly have lots of regulars already from all the chatting that was going on with people coming in and out - and lovely food. The Dhal Makani was a definite standout.

I also went to a new Indian place. :dotty: Tamarind, at the weekend.

The food was really good- it was quite traditional stuff but just done really well, and they had lovely cocktails too. However, we were the last table booked in for lunch and I got the impression that they couldn't wait to get rid of us at the end. :lol:

That looks lovely, Derek - I could eat most of the menu.

I love Tamarind, Ken. What did you have?

We went here last weekend and there was a queue out of the door to be seated.

Mr O had the chihuahua burger and I had the xolo. M hadn’t a hotdog and T had a normal burger. Everything was really good including the pickles. :ready:

I forgot about this thread. :)) I went to Ellory just before Christmas - it was bloody lovely. https://www.ellorylondon.com

The menu has changed since but I remember being very happy with a clam and lovage oil dish, because I cane the lovage when it's growing in my garden but it's dead now. I harangued the waiter about his winter lovage source and of bloody course it's from Natoora, who no longer deliver to human people, and he said that if the delivery doesn't come at this time of year there is literally no other possible source. :lg: We also had the smoked trout, an octopus dish and something incredible with a slow cooked egg, potato and mushrooms. And something I've forgotten. Plus the cheese board and a bottle of Jurancon sec.

Less excitingly we went to the local Italian last night which was nice. I had linguini with clams. http://ristorante.lucianoslondon.co.uk/

Both your burgers sound good but I think I'd give the Greek one a whirl.

I had a seafood cake and tandoori chicken with a sprout salad to start, and then we had a few dishes to share for main - a lamb, a chicken, (I can't remember more than that sadly) a daal, an aubergine and potato, with rice and naan, and then tandoori pineapple and kulfi to finish.

Also this place;

https://recipes.littlealleysteak.com/wp ... -06-17.pdf

I had the London broil and Mr O had the chicken fried chicken. It was so big it came out on 2 plates. Mine was amazing and I polished off the lot and regretted it.

This has been my favourite breakfast so far;

https://anotherbrokenegg.com/menu

Mr O and the boys had pancakes and I had the huevos rancheros.

Not our first time but we’ll be heading here for lunch probably this weekend;

http://ficklepicklecafe.com/wp-content/ ... -2014-.pdf

I’ll probably have the catfish po’boy and definitely a side of pickles.

Ellory sounds good, Goat. I would have the Parma pizza from your Italian.

I think I'd have a go at the French Bulldog. Or maybe the taco burger. Decisions, decisions.

Ellory looks really lovely, now I just have to conjure up a reason to be in Hackney :puzz:

I want to have the Retriever, it sounds like my beloved BK mushroom double swiss of yore but fancy. :love2:

It's darkest Hackney too, we had to have a pre-dinner drink in a proper hipster place that wouldn't let my friend in until she said I was already in there and we were only staying for one. :lol: Obviously I look the part. :look: (we'll ignore that no-one was on the door when I got there). There wasn't much else around.

I used to think the mushroom double Swiss was the height of sophistication. :love2: Check me eating a burger with mushrooms and foreign cheese. :))

We went to Lima last weekend, which was very good. Very laid back, our waitress was a bit fraught though and then massively over apologised. We enjoyed it. I had the King Crab Causa followed by Suckling Pig.

Today I'm having lunch at Comptior Lebanais which I've never heard of but looks like its a small chain. I love that sort of food so I'm looking forward to it. Then tonight (I have no idea why I have to go on a diet sometimes) we're eating out with my sister and BIL probably in Wapping Wharf which is the newish foodie bit (lots of achingly hip small eateries in shipping containers). You can't book anything there though so we'll have to see who has space.
