We went to Brigadiers the other night (sister restaurant of Gymhkana) and it was so good! We ordered an insane amount of food

Poppadums and chutneys (all their chutneys were AMAZING - This was a smoked aubergine, green chilli and I can’t remember what the red on was but it was so tasty.

Oh my goodness, I'd eat it all.

I went to Core a couple of weeks ago with my friend and we had the tasting menu. I didn't take any photos unfortunately but it was all delicious.

A woman on the next table ordered the scallop tartare and the sent it back because she hasn't realised it was raw. She also questioned if it was fresh or frozen

Angus. I absolutely loved Core. I need to go back soon.

Oh my god Pov. I hope that was all for you. :))

I'd love to try Core, it's languishing on my list. That woman though.

I will have the soft shell crab burger please. :ready:

I can't remember where I've been now. Standing out in my mind are Kyseri (beef and sour cherry manti was one of the best things I've eaten this year, and one of those dishes that is so much more than the sum of its parts) and Bao. I'm forgetting somewhere important though.

I went to a quite relaxed new Mexican place last night called Masa + Mezcal. Really great proper mexican food and excellent service. Plus a bunch of specialist mezcals (which I didn't sample) and all the staff seemed to have been thoroughly well trained on those mezcals.

Last night I had the Parma Ham, rocket & strawberry salad, and it was amazing. But then I had the lamb koftas and was disappointed because they’ve clearly been made with falafel mix, and were very dry. There was also only a smear of tzatziki on the bottoms of the plate so I had to ask for more. The carrot & coriander salad with it was lovely and refreshing as there was something citrusy added to it, but they’d also put dressed leaves on the plate and the dressing was wholegrain mustard based and just too much with everything else going on.

THe skinny fries were so good though.

That does look lovely Pip.

We tried a posh pub/restaurant here recently after lots of good reviews online and a friend who really raved about it. She is vegan and they made her a special menu etc etc.

However, something was off when we went. We were seated, given menus, drinks order taken etc. Drinks came everything fine. 45 minutes later we asked if we could order. Two of the starters I'd have had they'd run out of, so we ordered some bread, which took another 20 minutes to come. We didn't hang around for the mains, we said we'd pay for the drinks and left.

It was completely bizarre, they had plenty of staff, food was coming out, tables were being asked if everything was OK, if they needed anything etc. It was like we were invisible. The final straw was when a table was seated next to us and their starters were brought immediately.

The owner rang me the day after and asked us to go back as their guests, but really . While I appreciate the gesture we get so few nights out due to a lack of babysitters and we have loads of pubs/restaurants nearby so it's not like there isn't any alternative or a lack of choice!

Oh, what a shame Mayday! I'd be so disappointed.

I was a spoilt bastard last week and got taken to the chef's table at Marcus Wareing. It was all very lovely - tasty food, great service etc but I couldn't tell you one specific thing that we ate, and I am very, very pleased I wasn't paying the bill. Fine dining meals do tend to meld into one after a while. And yes, my diamond shoes are a tiny bit too tight thanks for asking :))

Other end of the scale, the pub round the corner from work has a new kitchen and I had the most excellent halloumi and portabello mushroom burger the other day. Now that I can't stop thinking about :) Also, and I also went to the Railhouse cafe (one of the Riding House group) in the newly developed bit of Victoria last night and it was lovely - a little on the pricey side for what it was, but super tasty, very friendly service and pretty good cocktails to boot. There's so many new places round there now, I do hope it will survive.

I wonder if it there was confusion over who was supposed to be looking after your table? anyway that does sound really bizarre!

Oh, I’m going to the Railhouse Cafe soon so it’s good to know that it’s worth a visit!

I haven’t booked anything for S’s birthday in about 10 days. Whoops.

Ask, if you're elderly like me :granny: , for a table that you can actually sit up on - we were on a table with a big curving sofa which, whilst all very nice to lounge, was too low for me.

I think I can trump you, Squizz. I was trying to think where I'd been of late, and it turned out only F&B's in a retail park on the edge of Coventry (last saturday). Brewers Fayre was the only other walkable option. The food was actually ok but the service was dire. They ended up knocking half the bill off (which was no consolation to me because I wasn't paying anyway).
