Help me recreate this cocktail (Seville Gin question)

Post by smalex »

Last week I had this cocktail. I love Cosmos but I dislike Gin. This didn't taste of gin, it tasted of clementines. Is the Tanqueray Sevilla Gin the only one available and does it taste nicely clementiney rather than gin-ish? #vague.
It's £25 a bottle so I'm a bit loathed to buy it if it's not the right thing. I've already got St Germain for the elderflower.

There are a couple that are very orangey, the tanquery is one.

Another is Malfy Con Arancia (Blood Orange) which is definitely not very gin-y. S even managed to try it and he is dead against gin.

I don't have bottles of either or I would have sent you a sample to try.

Thanks Shoe! You were one of the people I was hoping might answer.

I've seen that Malfy one actually, but not really registered it was Orangey. OK great that's helpful. I'll see if I can taste one in a bar somewhere before I buy it.

I personally prefer the Malfy blood Orange to Tanquery.

The Malfy lemon is my go to gin. It tastes of summer

Oh there’s an Aldi orange and lime gin that’s meant to be good and it’ll be reasonably priced

Chase do one as well, I got it in my advent calendar. For purposes of googling, they call it Seville Marmalade Gin. The version I got of course was a miniature because advent calendar so I wonder if they sell them separately from the that too? (rushing now or would, you know, check).

Thanks!

I've just googled Chase and they do do a big bottle by the looks. I'm not madly keen on Marmalade either, mind you, so I'm a bit iffy about that.

I wonder if there is a Gin Bar that specialises in Orange Gins? Or gin which doesn't taste like gin?

I did mean I wonder if they do a sample bottle (outside the advent calendar) than if they do a big bottle, so you could try it without shelling out. It was lovely but I can't really remember how far it was marmaladey rather than orangey. They do do a Seville orange vodka actually, if you're unsure of the gin aspect and the marmalade aspect?

Oh i see, yes, that would make more sense

Actually Just Miniatures do sample bottles of most of these, maybe I should just try a few. Although I'd probably end up spending as much as just buying a bottle

You can usually get mini bottles but they are so expensive. Like Duo, I prefer the Malfy to the Tanquery. The grapefruit version is also gorgeous.

Yeah, it's very quickly going to add up! They're £4-5 each, plus P+P.

I might just go for a Malfy then, if you both liked it more and your S liked it as a non-gin drinker.

He's dead against anything that tastes like gin so the fact he thought the Malfy was drinkable is a fairly big thing. He usually refuses to even try gin.

It goes exceptionally well with a slice of orange and some basil as a garnish if you ever end up using it in a G&T as well as your cocktail.

Yes, you need to add the slice of orange in to give the gin it's orange flavour.

Chase Grapefruit gin is another lovely non-gin-y citrus gin too.
