Architectural Digest: Open House
As soon as purple_dress mentioned Tan France's candle closet I knew I had to see it for myself so I settled down with a latte and the next thing I knew I'd lost a whole morning watching celebrity house tours It's a perfect lockdown distraction!
So far my favourites are Liv Tyler's NYC brownstone - I love her pocket doors, all the stairs, the basement laundry room, the pink glass and her keeping old LOTR merch in the attic is so cute!
I also totally LOVED Mandy Moore's mid century house in Pasadena. I'd seen this before but the tour was so good. I love it all but especially her forest green bed, outdoor kitchen, pool and the mountain views
I love that Robert Downey Jr lives in a windmill - it seems huge though!
I didn't like Kerry Washington's NYC apartment at all. I mean the views are amazing but you could tell it was all just done in a one-er by a company. I didn't think she came across that well either
If you fancy falling down a very enjoyable worm-hole here's the link to all their tours

It's not an AD video but I will also mention Anthoni Porowski's kitchen tour which I enjoyed very much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2dlmtRXMxM
I have almost as much salt as him and also agree about no scented candles in the kitchen But I'm shocked at how few cookery books he has!

Chelsea Handler's is my favourite so far. I'd live in that house and spend my days doing Pilates by the pool or drugs or dinner parties outside or working out in my gym. Any house that has a sun terrace attached to a bedroom will win me over.
I really hated the wallpaper in Tan France's house.

Yes, I wasn’t a fan either. He said that British homes all have wallpaper instead of paint, because it’s so cold. WTF?
I will check out Chelsea Handler’s next! Mandy Moore has her pool and sun terrace opening out from her bedroom too

Thanks for recommending Chelsea Handler’s tour, Luce. I really loved it! All the books everywhere and the fridge in her closet and the outdoor kitchen and fireplace I loved the little tidbit that it used to be Esther William’s house too.
I didn’t think agate was pronounced that way (aggit) but Mandy Moore said it the same way!

I might steal the idea of Chelsea’s coffee table stacked with books:

I’d say agut, sort of.
I haven’t had a chance to watch any of these yet, but I want to.

They are short! You can definitely find time. Make yourself a drink and settle in

I've been cherry picking a few, but will go back and do them properly - Nikolaj whatshisface from Game of Thrones is my favourite so far, not just because of the house but he's so endearingly sweet and Danish about the whole thing. Also, Zachary Quinto's place shows you how little you get for your $$$s in Manhattan!
Eta Also David Harbours NY place. His bathroom though

I picked Ricky Martin for my first viewing. Within the first minute and a half he mentions his porn collection. Chunk pipes up “what’s porn?”
So we can’t say he’s learning nothing during lockdown.

Oh no I haven’t seen the Ricky Martin one.
I watched Neil Patrick Harris which was like a chintzy hotel. The monkey bar and then Lenny Kravitz which was absolutely (unintentionally) hilarious. S watched too and couldn’t believe it was real!
Dominic West has an actual castle In Ireland! He basically lives in a museum. I don’t think I’ve ever heard his actual real accent before.

Dominic West is proper posh, he went to Ampleforth I think. Although the castle is his wife's place I believe, she's Anglo Irish aristocracy.
Christ on a bendy bus son, don't be such a fucking faff arse

I could never live in Dita von Teese‘s house, but I’m fascinated by it!
