Re: DIY for Dummies
I'd still try a heating engineer, even without gas as they'll be more familiar with the work, probably.

Re: DIY for Dummies
If it’s attached to the central heating (which I’m assuming is gas) then there would be gas shenanigans involved as they’ll need to drain the system/do some isolation to put the new radiators in and then dick about with the pressure and shit to get it working again.
Obviously I’ve described that just as a professional gas plumber would

Re: DIY for Dummies
The central heating (including boiler) is electric, so hopefully that simplified things a bit. It’s the whole draining-down thing that worries me a bit. Where do they drain *to* :thick:?
Dicking about with the pressure and shit is just how I’ve imagined it too .

I’d have thought a heating engineer / plumber would have a bucket,

Thanks. Argh, I’ve been putting it off because of the hassle, but it really needs to be done soon as the cats’ favourite radiator currently doesn’t work .

Re: DIY for Dummies
I never have any idea what sort of person you need for what, if it's not blindingly obvious.
Skips! That's so annoying. I am joining you as I ran out of paint yesterday . The white paint for three of the walls and the ceiling. I have some ordered on click and collect that Mr G can pick up for me tomorrow (I could have walked but the distance+weight meant I'd rather wait a day till he gets back) but it's meant that the whole issue of order that prompted me to start this thing has gone right out the window. I've done: ceiling, coving, white walls (one coat), dark walls, woodwork (except the bits on the dark wall which wasn't dry enough to mask off) and now need to do the white walls again tomorrow. Fuck's SAKE. It's a masking riddle.
Also, I carefully taped down dustsheets everywhere, then got paint on the underside of my shoe and walked all through the house.
On the plus side, I LOVE it. It's not finished but looks so, so much better.

Thank you for all your help, here is my painted room. Haven't put things back on the walls yet and need new curtains and sofas, but paintwork aspect is DONE.

That’s a lovely colour. Not sure you’ve got the space for plank moguls mind.

Re: DIY for Dummies
I never had the space for plank moguls. I have kicked over vases on much less theatrical moves.
Thank you! I love it, which is just as well seeing as it near killed me.

I think this is the first time I've finished and not hated my own work.
