Re: Corona Virus
We had a local pub like that growing up, my dad went every night for one drink with all his friends*, we did the quiz every week with our neighbours, and if you needed to find anyone's dad, that was where you went. I made the mistake of having a date there when I was a teenager, and when we walked in, our dads were there sitting together. (his dad "oh there's my son, with ANOTHER girl" my dad "THAT'S MY DAUGHTER"). It was lovely.

I feel sorry for my niece (early 20s, career going very well, single, very sociable) because what a point in your life to be stuck at your mum's kitchen table. But she does point out that it's the same for everyone so it's not like you're missing out on anything and all your peers are out there. Except now it must start to feel like that if you're not ready to go to park raves.

That sounds familiar Goat, there's a lot of seat politics goes on in my brother's pub, the unwritten rules are complex and terrifying!
I feel for my nephew, he's just turned 21 and was in his first year at art school in Aberdeen, and now he's back home living with his parents again. I think he is out quite a lot though, i don't ask

At least Nicola makes a decision quickly and gives pretty clear advice.
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.

Re: Corona Virus
Aberdeen is showing how easily and quickly it can spread. I hope it makes folk realise it's not away and precautions still need to be taken. FACTS isn't for fun.

Re: Corona Virus
I said to friends yesterday that it wouldn't take much for Nicola to impose a local lockdown. We're in the shire so it doesn't apply to us, yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Re: Corona Virus
I hope closure of pubs and cafes will make a difference. I was chatting with a colleague today about how little social distancing we are seeing in public now. I have relaxed a bit myself, slowing down to browse in grocery shops or nipping into another shop rather than doing without if I can't get everything I need and then last night going out for dinner. I'm going to get back into being more cautious because I feel like my standards are continuing to slip and I don't want to put my loved ones at risk.

Re: Corona Virus
Its easy to get complacent ( i have been similar, more lax about shops etc) especially as deaths have dropped a lot here but it shows how easily it can just ramp up again.
Apparently in Melbourne, they believe the increase in cases is partly due to people getting a positive test but still not isolating! What the fuck is wrong with you if you do that?

If you’re not going to isolate, why bother getting a test?

Re: Corona Virus
The guy in Aberdeen was apparently an offshore worker waiting for tests results. Most (all?) of the companies have their people get a test and isolate in a hotel before going to the platform, so they don't take the virus with them, then they test them again upon return.

Brag you've had it and don't need to bother with it anymore. Brag that it's mild, confirming your belief it's not worth bothering about maybe.Pippedydeadeye wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:01 pm If you’re not going to isolate, why bother getting a test?
That sounds mean, but it was noted when the antibody tests were being discussed that there risked a sort of two tier system emerging, with the immune 'haves' getting more freedom than the yet to be infected have-nots.

Re: Corona Virus
Not isolating after a positive test beggars belief.
I've been in two pubs, outside only, and I chose them as I knew they have massive beer gardens and tables about five metres or more away from each other. I still can't contemplate going anywhere inside yet, but I guess I might change my mind when it's freezing and raining for weeks.

I do feel a little bit invincible with my antibodies but I’ve not been acting as such. People are dicks.

Sadly, you're probably not even a bit invincible by now though, Pip.
Not isolating whilst even waiting for a test is mental, let alone AFTER getting a positive result!

I don't think we know enough about antibodies yet, do we? I think that if you've had it once, and have antibodies, then if you do get it later you are unlikely to get it as seriously.

How do you know I’m not really Deadpool? I’m still going to see if they want my plasma. I couldn’t get an appointment before but I passed the screening.

I got it slightly wrong, they only get tested on the way out not on their return home, which means he's gone against his company rules and left the hotel.
